Blog About:

I have been trying my best to make this blog super positive lately, and it helps that some good stuff is going on, but as the point of this little exercise is to be honest, I do have to share some not-so-positive stuff.

Right now, my biggest worry is my health. Now my pain levels have been slowly increasing again after a period of leveling off, but that's not really what's new.

What is new is that I seem to be suffering from some kind of heartburn/acid reflux thing that has made laying down uncomfortable and has made me consider an all ice cream diet, and the fact that my vision seems to be deteriorating a little, as I am struggling to read books.

Cant really do much about the latter problem, as since I went and had that little accident with my car and took out most of my emergency cushion money, I cant afford new glasses right now.

And as for the former problem, if it continues, I'll have to see a doctor, but you'll forgive me if I hope it's just minor ....

Ah, well. the adventures of getting older, I guess ...

Hugs, dear. Have you looked

Hugs, dear. Have you looked into possible grants to pay for or help pay for things like new glasses, etc.
There are old home/folk remedies for acid reflux, one is a teaspoon of honey, another is a teaspoon of lemon juice. Every 'cure' does not work for everyone, but if you have them already it's worth a try. A friend of mine has acid reflux and she takes honey. She says it works for her.

I hope you feel better soon.

Kombucha?

Have you considered drinking some of it? I know that might sound contradictory but I was taking a class from the local health food store and the instructor mentioned taking it every time she has that problem.
As for some of the other things like general pain, have you considered taking the Yellow Coke, i.e. Turmeric? There are supplements you can buy that contain only Circumin, a concentrated extract of what is so good for you in Turmeric. I suspect I'm younger than you and I take one pill according to the direction's every day. Turmeric is suppose to be one of the most powerful anti-inflammatories that exists. There are studies now showing how well it works for pain management in addition to being a powerful preventative measure against Altzheimer's and other neurodegenerative disease.
Another recommendation I would give is if Marijuana is legally, even medicinally, get a prescription for it. Smoke or even eat a gram a week(if you can get it clean in raw form), voila.
Some other things I might suggest are fresh blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, etc. Tart cherry syrup would likely help too.
Oh I almost forgot...I take an anti-inflammatory supplement called "Anti-Flam" that helps if I have immediate pain. It contains "White Willow Bark", "Circumin", Ginger, Licorice Root and a few others.
It's not the cheapest but compared to the effects of some commercial medicine like what Acetaminophen does to the brain with repeated exposure. X-( I'm thankful I didn't take that many in the grand scheme of things.

I have severe hyperacusis,

I have severe hyperacusis, and some kind of strobe-induced vertigo. I knew that aspirin could damage the auditory and vestibular systems, but aspirin made me sick, so I avoided it. I didn't know that the other things I was eating, like turmeric, and blueberries, and drinking, like tea, contained the same chemicals and could do the same things.

Just because something is natural, and because something is safe for some people, does not mean it is safe for everyone.

Is Pot legal for you then?

Any possibility at all? I would hate for anyone to not have any good anti-inflammatories or antioxidants at their disposal and see you be more vulnerable to those aforementioned ailments.

No, it's not. But... I never

No, it's not. But... I never understood how anti-inflammatories are supposed to be good; aside from tea, which has other stuff, the others never made me feel any better and could make me feel much worse.

Maybe larger lunches, smaller

Maybe larger lunches, smaller dinners, and extra pillows for the nights?

I am not a doctor, but I'd suggest looking into dietary causes, such as defiencincies and allergies.

I wouldn't suggest taking turmeric unless you can rule out salicylate intolerance and other salicylate-related health problems. I used to eat a lot of turmeric myself, and take pills with it, until I found out that it is chemically related to mint, aloe vera, aspirin/nsaids, vanilla, and other things which would make me sick. I am now trying to avoid turmeric and other salicylates.

Acid Reflux

Patricia Marie Allen's picture

My wife suffers from acid reflux. The doctor prescribed Tagamet. Being on a tight budget (and a penny pincher to boot) we but the generic version, Cimetidine. We get it at Walgreens. Twice the number of pills for the same price. She takes it at night before going to bed.

I too sometimes suffer from heartburn that sometimes wakes me at night with bile in my throat. For immediate relief I use one half a teaspoon of baking soda in a half a glass of warm water. I chug it down in one breath. The end result is belching. Soda and acid form a gas as the acid is neutralized. Once the belching is over, I can go back to bed. I'm slowly becoming attuned to the kinds of foods that cause my acid reflux and if I can remember to take the Cimetidine before I eat or directly after, it prevents it.

Hugs
Patricia
