While crying about my own and Cathy's mom, a funny thing happened. A happy, silly, little song started tripping around in my brain. I couldn't stop it, so I had to write it down. It didn't stop my tears but at least now I'm smiling. :)

Erin

Missing a Hug
I'm missing a hug.
Have you seen it?
It's about this big.
Have you got it?
It was round and warm
And big enough for two.
I know it's around somewhere --
I wanted to give it to you.
I never have any hugs
'Cause I give them all away
Even though everyone
Gave me a hug today --
I'm fresh out!
Give me a hug and
I'll have one to give to you.
I'll keep it safe and warm
Till you need it back.
I'm missing a hug.
Have you seen it?
It's about this big.
Have you got it?
It was round and warm
And big enough for two.
I know it's around somewhere --
I wanted to give it to you.
I just can't keep a hug
I give them all away
But if I had a hug
I'd give you one today --
You know I would!
Take a hug along
When you're going far away
That way we'll have one
To share when you get back.
I'm missing a hug.
Have you seen it?
It's about this big.
Have you got it?
It was round and warm
And big enough for two.
I know it's around somewhere --
I wanted to give it to you.

Chasing away sadness
Your little song chased away some of my sadness today. I've lost two aunts since the first of the year. Both were my Mom's younger sisters. I think a lot about that. That got me to other things that chase away the sad feelings. Being jumped by a puppy and slobbered in wet kisses. Hugs that come from the heart. The purrs of a furry friend sharing your lap. A kindness done by a stranger. I'm sure there are lots more but that all that comes to mind right now.
PS: Even Julie Andrews "Favorite things" sometimes coax a smile while in the rain.

Very Cute Poem
Erin. You need to post it as a poem here and at Fictioneer! But I have a question, since it is your poem, may I use it in a story?

Recent Loss
I just had my birthday recently, the first one since my mother died.
She always used to call me up on my birthday, and with great enthusiasm and lack of any embarrassment, sing me "Happy Birthday," a bit off-key perhaps, but without fail, usually with my Dad in tow.
That little hole in the routine of life might not be much, but it does remind you of what you miss most about someone. Goodbye, Mom. I know you would have serenaded me again this year if you could have, and that I'll always miss you for a lot more than that. Not as much as Dad does, but plenty still.
You'll Never Go Short
Of a hug yourself, Erin. Thanks for everything,
Hugs,
Joanne
very sweet
That would make a very good children's book. I can almost picture the watercolor illustrations.
I thought of that :)
Toy animals hugging each other. AAAAAAUUUGH! :)

Erin

But this would make an excellent kids book
Sweet, pure, simple enough for kids to get, and would appeal to the parents
who actually buy the books- If they're huggers themselves.
And it wouldn't have to be toy animals in the illustration,
just animals, in a whimsical crudely drawn outline style.

.
I wrote a poem about hugs once:
Jim and Doug took some drugs
Now they're turning into bugs
And that wouldn't be so bad
'cept they're trying to give me hugs;
When their mouth parts drool and click
it's enough to make you sick
And their spiny buggy boners
make me run away real quick!
(Who sez I can't be sentimental?)
What borders on stupidity?
Canada and Mexico.
.
LOL!
That's worthy of Jules Feiffer or Shel Silverstein!
Hugs,
Erin

Stanman
I saw the post from Stanman and it gave me a little start as the big man has been gone for awhile . I shed a tear for all our friends that have been lost at BCTS . My cyber family is nicer and warmer than my real family . Rest in Peace to all that have passed on this year.

Thanks for that. My wife and I lost all (4) of our parents within a 2 year period. Very trying time (especially for the children). Thanks once again.

Erin, Thanks for re-posting
I don't often read "potry", but this caught my eye, and I'm delighted it did. There really aren't enough hugs around.
Huggles to all.
