Healing...
Dealing with childhood traumas is typically a gradual process for most people. Some who faced severe abuse may find it a lifelong one. Nevertheless, every effort toward healing counts. Figuratively, healing is much like peeling layers off an onion - reaching the center takes time and effort. Gradually, however, the pain lessens and disturbing memories become less vivid. Best of all, every person is capable of creating a reality which is healing and supportive in a present sense.
It indeed does get better.

I don't think one ever fully recovers from childhood abuse.
Frankly I am too fouled up to offer any coherent, balanced observations on this article and that even after reading it several times. The only ray of light I could respond to was in the sentence towards the end;
Best of all, every person is capable of creating a reality which is healing and supportive in a present sense.
That personal reality is a different law and circumstance to each and every abused child. The capability described therein is very much a function of each individual's remaining strengths as they progress to adulthood and beyond. Very few of us are undamaged especially when gender issues are thrown into the abuse equation.
My 'supportive reality' would hardly be recognised as such by most psychiatrists.
