Well, yesterday, I got chewed out by my Human Resources manager because I hadn't taken any vacation time during my last year of working for Walmart, and she and my supervisor insisted on me taking it as soon as possible.
So I will be on vacation for two weeks starting June 8, but I have no idea what I will be doing with myself. I have no money for a trip anyplace, so it will be a "stay-cation", and it could be rather boring ...

Stay-cations
I know them well. I've been on my job long enough to have four weeks vacation, provided I take it all. They call it PTO... Personal Time Off. We can use it for sick-leave or vacation. At my level, I'm allowed to accrue 152 hours, but if I don't let it reach that point, I can take 164 hours; four weeks. By careful management of it, I can take the four week and still keep 80 hours in the bank in case something comes up, like I actually get sick.
Well, there's no way I could manage four weeks of vacation, that is going someplace where I had to pay, so at least two, but more likely three, weeks each year it's stay-cation for me.
My wife says those weeks I stay home from work serve to demonstrate why I can't retire. I get way to involved in what she's doing and/or the computer.

Vacations
That's one thing I never have to worry about...having too much vacation time. At the rate I accrue it, I could take every other Friday off forever. I don't, but I do take one or more "Mental Health Days" off a month. Where I work they do let you take a cash payment rather than take the days off if you have too much vacation to carry over. The day off is worth far more than it's monetary value!

Well, possibly.
But since Walmart's vacation policy is 'use it or lose it', you are far better off using it than just letting it go to waste, especially since it sounds like you are close to your anniversary hire date, and would have lost those 2 weeks. They wouldn't have chewed you out unless you were fixing to lose it, and as crazy as it sounds, they would have gotten in trouble with the district human resources mgr as soon as it popped up on a report that they had an associate who didn't get a vacation in the last year. Trust me, Walmart has a report for everything.
With the trouble you've been having with your feet, I say relax, and let your body heal. I also work at Walmart, 10 and half years now, and believe me, those stay-cations, that let your body heal up can be better for you than you suspect.
(grin)Besides, you have this awesome website with all these wonderful stories, and now you have time to catch up on all the stories you probably wanted to read but didn't have time to.
So, kick back, relax, sleep in, enjoy the time off. The store will still be there when you get back, and I'm sure that when you do go back, you'll get that great feeling of appreciation when your mgr tells you that they missed you and they're glad you're back.
