well, my mom showed me how alike we are in her reaction to the growth on the bottom of my foot.

She panicked, tried to claim that the doctors I've seen dont care if I die, and told me I should stop taking the hormones because if they can grow breasts maybe they can cause this growth too, and basically spent the day freaking out that I was gonna lose my foot and need chemo therapy or something.

Its funny, but having her act out all the internal fears I had helped me realize how silly some of them are ...

ah, well.

Moms and daughters

laika's picture

The sickness of the mother runs on through the girl
Leaving her small and helpless
Liquor files through her brain with the force of a gun
Leaving her running in circles
How can she tell a good act from the bad
When she's flat on her back in her room
How can she do what needs to be done
When she's a coward and a bleeder

~Lou Reed, Endless Cycle

For me these lyrics from the late great Lou Reed hit a little too close to home sometimes.
Seeing my weirdly neurotic mom in my own thoughts & behavior can be pretty disconcerting.
But when I realize I'm doing something like my dad would have, that's the true horror...
