Chapter 10

Things went from black to this fuzzy grey and Emily could smell something sweet yet not cloying this really lovely almost mixture or flowers, citrus and vanilla…Kira’s perfume.

But it was after school?

After school.

Jack and the asshole…

Grabbing her, trying to grab her! Oh my god they were going to!

“Aaah!!!” She sat up with a scream and planted her face into Kira’s shirt and cleavage.

“Oh god you’re okay…” Kira said her voice flooded with relief. Emily hung on and cried into Kira’s chest and it took a few minutes before she felt safe…and that she felt…oh.

They were so soft and they felt so amazing it actually sort of stunned her a few minutes. She slowly pulled away and rubbed at her eyes and blushed. It wasn’t just Kira there but her sister and the principal and Matt as well as a police officer, actually a female state trooper since there were no women on the town police force. Well not as patrol officers…and her folks were there.

She was in the hospital? She didn’t remember getting there and she had a painful bump on the back of her head too.

Her mom looked at Emily her eye’s looking red from crying and was hanging onto her dad.

It went a little chaotically at first with several people wanting to know if she was okay and trying to fuss over her and the police/Trooper matron asked then to please wait outside.

They left willingly but looks of concern too and she sat with the female officer and went through a short but really detailed account of what had happened. Except for Matt…Matt had come to her rescue and she didn’t want to get him in trouble and she said that she hadn’t really seen what had happened with that because it all happened so fast.

She wasn’t sure that the officer really believed her but she also didn’t seem too interested in what Matt had done other than stop them.

The officer made it pretty short but it still had made Emily pretty shaky afterwards reliving what had happened. All Emily had to do was close her eyes and it was all there. Jack his face this red twisted mass of anger…he hated her and Trent…she really didn’t know Trent but what she did know wasn’t good. A few of the girls that had dated him had said he was a jerk.

Turns out he was a homophobe too.

But were they right? Am I gay?

Heck I’m XY…I might be CAIS but is it possible to be…like me and still be naturally attracted to girls?

She got up and checked her things open and noticed that her top had been torn at the neck, she hadn’t noticed that at the fight or the chase or whatever you could’ve called what had happened but it just gave her the chills.

She slipped out into the hall where everyone was waiting and her mom was the first one to hug her and then Angie then her dad. It felt good actually and she just sank into all the hugs and stuff.

The principal went over to her when the hugging was done. “I am so sorry that this happened Emily, I really am and I can tell you that some of them chasing you were caught on the school’s security cameras and I won’t tolerate these things happening at my school. The two boys have been expelled for the year alright?”

“Okay…I mean yes sir.”

“I mean it we’re not going to have these kinds of things going on here.”

“It…they thought I’m gay sir.”

“That doesn’t matter Emily, everyone has the right to have a peaceful education in my school and I’ll make sure that this gets a whole lot more attention.”

“That might be good sir; I mean…I…isn’t it hard enough being different?”

“Yes, yes it is and trust me things are going to be different.”

“Thank you sir.”

He shook her hand and she shook it back and he left talking with the officer and Matt came over and she hugged him hard. “Thank god you were there Matt, you saved my life.”

He blushed and he shrugged. “I have sisters and a mom and a girlfriend I just couldn’t just watch right?”

“A lot of people might have…they thought I was a Lesbian and wanted to do things…”

“Yeah there’s no shortage of fucktards is there?”

(Sniffle-smile.) “No…too bad I was dating one of them.”

He passed her a can of Mountain Dew out of his pocket. “Look I want to talk to you later okay? I have to go though the coach and my folks want to talk to me and stuff.”

“Okay…are you in trouble?”

“No, not likely but this did bring stuff up at least for the team. I think my folks just want to see if I’m okay and that I’m not going to be in any legal trouble.”

“If you are? If Jack and Trent are going to press charges?”

He smiled and shrugged like it was nothing. “You’re okay; it’d still be worth it.”

Emily smiled and she blushed and she felt the stirrings that she’d get with boys kind of there with Matt. It was too bad he had a girlfriend….she watched him go but getting hugs from her mom and a big hand shake from her dad and a bit too friendly of a hug from Angie who she was sure pressed her chest into him a bit too much. If she did Matt said nothing and waved goodbye to them all.

She looked over at Kira who smiled at her and she felt like crying all over again and sort of just wanted to slip into her…

Kira just walked over to her and wrapped her up in a hug. “It’s okay Em I’m here.”

“Thank you…” she wanted to know why she was here because Kira had left before she had but at the same time she was so glad that she was here and holding her that she didn’t even want to bring it up.

She was getting this “look” from Angie but luckily her mom didn’t seem to catch it.

She sort of knew what this could look like but she felt good here, safe. And Kira’s embrace was stronger than she thought it would be it. It was nice, not like strong like Matt would be but different.

And Matt…she definitely felt that pull that guys always had there so…was she gay, straight? Bisexual?

Her sister coughed and she looked up from Kira’s shoulder. She hadn’t even noticed that she had put her head there. “Mnn….?” She had also almost fallen asleep right there too…it was like Kira had melted the stress away.

Angie looked at her. “C’mon mom wants to get you home.”

Emily looked and they’d already left ahead of them likely to go and get the car. “Okay, I’ll be right there.”

“Fine…don’t be too long; mom’s going to watch you like a hawk for awhile after this.”

“Okay…”

Angie left but gave the two of them another look before going and Emily blushed. “Angie thinks that I might be a lesbian because of the way that we just clicked.”

“Well given where you buried your face when you woke up it almost looks that way.”

“Sorry I didn’t mean to do that.”

“I wasn’t complaining Emily.”

“What?”

Kira looked at her and she could see the shimmer there of tears? “Kira?”

Kira bit her lower lip. “I like you Emily, I do I like you a lot…and I’m…I’m attracted to you…I know that this is maybe a shock to you or maybe not but I want to get to know you better….if that’s just as friends great but…you deserve to know that I’ve been kind of crushing on you a little since we met…”

Whoa…

It was shy, Kira was scared but she was so brave and that shy made her look all the more beautiful all at the same time.

“I…I like you too Kira…you’ve…god, I never…and girls and you…and…”

Kira move her arms from Emily’s side to the curve of her waist…. “So….we get to know each other better…?”

Emily nodded…. “I…I…I’d like that too Kira.”

Kira gave Emily this sweet dizzying smile. “Thank you Emily…”

She leaned in and gave her this whisper soft kiss on her cheek and let her hands go. “Call me, okay?”

Emily only nodded as Kira left and she started to follow her but Kira went into the ladies room and Emily walked to the lobby and outside where her family was waiting in the car. Her dad got out and opened the door for her looking at her.

“Are you going to be okay kiddo?”

“What…oh yeah...I’ll be okay daddy I guess…it’s just been a hell of a day.”

“I can only imagine honey.”

Emily slide into the car thinking.

No….you really can’t.
