For those of you who havent heard yet, Jim Sandusky, the former assistant coach of the Pen State has been sentenced to between 30 and 60 years in prison for molesting young boys.
Two things came out over the last couple of days regarding the case, one good, the other bad.
The good thing was the judge made a point of praising the victims who had come forward, and reminded them they had nothing to be ashamed of, something which any person who has been victimized like this might struggle with, as indeed I do.
The bad, sadly, was Sandusky continuing to claim innocence, blaming his victims, saying one was an attention seeker, and claiming the prosecution rushed the case, not giving him time to prepare a defence. He has said he will appeal the conviction, so the sad thing is this isnt over yet, and wont be for some time.
That being said, my prayers go out to his victims, that they may eventually make as full a recovery as is possible.
They'll never know me, and I dont know their names, but as we are each members of the "club" of the abused, I can only hope for the best for them.
These kind of events leave scars on the soul, as I well know, and sometimes, I wonder if they ever really heal ...

that doesn't shock me. Heck, I'm more shocked he didn't run with the "I'm crazy" defense that most people go with. I will admit that I'm shocked the trial happened so fast, I always thought this stuff got drawn out for years, guess that's what the appeals do. And the bad mouthing the victims, typical bad guy move, try and make the kids seem less then honest. This guy needs to be put in general population for a few hours.

We have our own scandal
this side of the pond concerning Sir Jimmy Savile who was DJ and television presenter. His good point was that he raised millions of pounds for hospitals, the bad that it appears he might have abused dozens of women and children. He died earlier this year and it seems the victims are now coming forward. Many tried before and it was ignored or hushed up.
Never having been the subject of abuse as a child, I can't imagine what the trauma is like, I have, however, counselled some who have been so abused and the power of the abuser seems to live on long after their death.
I'll never understand why anyone would want to abuse anyone else, it's all about power and narcisism I assume, but it leaves me feeling angry that people still do it, and disgusted that women do it as well as men.
In evolutionary terms, we're one of the most advanced species of all time; morally, some of us appear to be still down there in the primordial slime.

I see a lot of hatred and a lot of responses from people who really don't have all the information. As someone who has been railroaded by the system, I don't know whether or not Sandusky is guilty or innocent. I didn't see the evidence and I always cast some doubt when things go so long before being reported.
I was a victim of abuse, myself, so don't think I am saying this out of ignorance. I know what abuse can do to a person. But us focusing hate on another human being doesn't change anything and since none of us have dealings (to my knowledge) with sandusky, let the media have its witch hunt, but lets stay out of it.

Thank you KT for being a voice of reason here. And I have to second your request to stop the hatred filled posts about someone who can not read them, and who can not even respond to them.
I fully support the need to vent feelings of anger, frustration and hatred (or any other strong emotion), as long as it happens in a setting of trust and confidentiality. Like for example with a loving partner, a trusted friend or a counseler or therapist.
But a public forum is not the place to vent strong negative feelings. Some of the comments made here could be used as a basis for crimminal prosecution of the poster, because the could be interpreted as preaching self-justice or unlawfull actions. And even though we might use a pseudonym and/or a disposable e-mail address to register here on BCTS, there is a prety impressive trail of evidence left behind that can be used to trace the comments back to our physical location.
Finally, those of us who have not been present at the trial should refrain from judging, unless we also want to be judged by others based on biased reporting about our own actions, character or presentation.
So please, pretty please, let's keep this site free of hatred or other strong negative emotions towards others, especially if they have no way of responding to those acusations and threats. Erin has often enough requested that we as guests (a.k.a. users) of this site be friendly and help one another, unless we want to risk losing this wonderfull resource.
