I managed to escape without going back through the boys’ locker room; the coaches’ corridor has its own entrance and exit. Megan was waiting for me looking crisp and cute in her denim capris and a tied top, Elly May Clampett-style.
I had to grin at her, and when I held my arm up, she snuggled under it. We kissed, just a peck because we were still on school grounds, but it felt nice. It was as it had been for a moment, but then she asked, “You haven’t forgotten, have you?”
I have more than 200 unfinished stories clustering around me like tiny, empty, liquor bottles around the corpse of a destitute alcoholic.
Besides the stories I have started and not finished on this site and others, like The Pregnant Boy and 30 Million Reasons, and ones that I am still working on like Pete's Vagina and Special FX, I have scores hidden away on hard drives, many of them tantalizing, fragmentary visions of longer works.
Yesterday, in the early afternoon I started experiencing some things: trembling hands, upset stomach, racing heart. I went to urgent care finally and they sent me to the hospital ER.
Diagnosis for the moment is paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. I now have prescriptions to treat this and orders that I should see a cardiologist soonest.
I didn't get to bed till after two last night and I'm tired, but this may explain the rising number of times I've just been too tired to do much lately.
Well, it will be re-pubbed soon. Kindle sometimes takes a day or two.
If you've already bought this book, Kindle should allow you to update your copy with the new text.
If you haven't bought it yet, now's your chance! Uh, well, wait till tomorrow morning probably is best. There were only a few typos we fixed, so if you are okay with that go ahead. :)
Thanks to Piper's heroic efforts, BCTS is back online. We're getting so much traffic right now that things are acting a little quirky but it looks like that is clearing up as the buffers and caches fill up to take up the excess load. :)
Sometime today, probably in the evening Eastern Time, our servers will be unplugged and the rack they are in will be moved to a new location in the server farm before being plugged back in and rebooted.
Piper has been to the server farm these last two days to help ensure this goes smoothly, and we are not expecting to be down for more than an hour.
Don't Panic. :)
This has been planned for months, but is part of the reason we wanted to be sure we had money in the bank, right now, in case Piper had to stay overnight or something.
I need everyone who won something in the Christmas Contest, monetary prize or DopplerPress book, to send me a PM with Christmas Contest as the subject and with content that clearly describes what you need, money or ebook, or contribution of prize money to the Hatbox.
I know several people have already PMd me or contacted me some other way with this info but it's been a hectic few days and I'm still fighting off this humongous tiredness I've had for months. My PM and email boxes are so cluttered, I can't find anything easily.
Thanks to all the contributors who stepped up to help us out in the last week or two. :) It is greatly appreciated.
We can only do this with your support. You can see in the sidebar that we are in a much healthier situation for the month but there is still more needed to get us to a good finish for the year.
If you can help, it will be appreciated. And please, be safe.
Oh, and Happy Christmas! :)
Hugs,
Erin, Piper, Jamie, Cat and the rest of the crew
Our bank account is empty. We're almost a month behind on where we should be for operating funds.
For the last four months, we have been short of funds at the end of each month and borrowed from the next month to keep going. That mule is dead and will not cross the finish line. I just put money of my own into the company account to cover for a few days
If you can help, it will be appreciated. And please, be safe.
Hugs,
Erin, Piper, Jamie, Cat and the rest of the crew
I got a call from Cathy Michel today. She's still in the hospital, doing better in some aspects. They have got her breathing problems sorted out but they are keeping her to do more tests on her heart function. She's with the VA in Western New York but may get transferred to a different hospital where they may be better able to do the tests her doctors want.
Hospital internet does not allow her access to BigCloset so she asked me to write this note to let people know what is happening. She'll try to keep me posted by telephone so I can report on what is happening with her.
Happy Thanksgiving to those in the US and Happy Thursday to everyone else. :)
I'm leaving for a four-day vacation in about an hour, going to San Diego for Comic-Con Special Edition, first con I've gone to in more than four years. It's just a nearly straight ride down the freeway and I have a hotel only a few blocks from the Convention Center.
I'm fully vaccinated and boosted and everyone else has to be to get inside so it should be pretty safe.
