Because ....
...everyone with PTSD deals with traumatic events whether or not they 'remember' them. It's in the remembering and re-integrating of traumatic memories in an ever increasingly safe manner that allows the brain to re-form neural pathways so that the past finally becomes the past. It takes away the effect of the pain and eventually allows the brain to reintegrate certain aspects of memory without having to even recollect.
