The Prince and the Maiden

With assistance from both Merior, and Rosemary Howell!

For the beauty and power in his blood,
Many desired the prince as a stud.

His royal sire sought perfected progeny.
Long days spent, selecting who he’d marry.

Seeking to complete his matchmaking quest,
The king found a maiden whose mind was the best.

Deciding to trade his years for his coffers,
He extended a very generous offer.

A geas to obey her lord,
For supplies, room, and board.

Locked into a life-long career,
Chained to the search, year after year.

Wise of thought, she crafted an aide of her own:
A thinking machine of magic, water, and stone.

Gathering princely knowledge, finding his fit.
She was filled in well, swapping words and spit.

Falling in love, while searching for mates,
She cursed her career while going on dates.

Sadly, the search succeeded, "I approve!", the king said.
Even as chance would make them all dead.

The maid told the prince of the odds.
They came together and prayed to their gods.

A godly thief from outside their lands,
Heard their cries and lended a hand.

Stolen away on a moonlit night,
wishing their kingdom a future so bright,

The spare rose to rule, sparing much pain,
One kingdom’s loss was another world’s gain.

And as the prophecies did foretell,
The king’s whole family ended up doing well.
