Being ill in bed with the flu, I was not sick enough to sleep but not well enough to do anything meaningful. So, I started searching my old name. OMG, I found a database that lists me as the author of "Yeksim and the Jungle Planet". It was probably about my first effort at story writing, but how it got on the internet, I have no idea. I think that by '87 the amber screen was gone, but was it time for the 386 yet? It is reall chilling that this work lies in a data base somewhere.

Yup, everything you've ever done is recorded somewhere. And no, I'm not talking about some old geezer sitting on a cloud and writing with a feather on scraped sheepskin. In 'the real world' every bit of information, every transaction using 'plastic', every thing you've ever written online... is stored away somewhere. Make a phone call using a cell phone... they know to the second how long you were talking, and they probably know who you were talking to. Send a silly joke by e-mail to a friend... it's recorded. Post an opinion about 'anything'... and it's recorded.
So, what's my point? Simple. Never ever say or write anything 'online' that you aren't comfortable with someone else knowing. If you have a secret to share that you want kept secret, say it face to face in a private place. (Don't shout it down a well. Some gov't's have been known to hang microphones in wells...)
One other thing... gov't programs that monitor the 'net and phone networks focus on "keywords". Remember that at all times, especially if you are planning a revolution or "popular uprising". Using stock phrases such as "I'd like to kill that 'bleep'ard" in the same conversation where a political leaders name is mentioned... will inevitably get you a visit from the gov't security service. You may not be aware of the visit, but...

I wrote an email to Rev Al Sharpton today saying how happy I was that he was suing Rush Limbaugh. I told him that I hoped he got him good. Then my email started actin all wonkie. I wonder if they do handcuffs in mauve?

However, the reason your email service went all wonky is because the AI was giggling so hard it fouled up the bitstream on your ISP... so, you don't have to worry about colour co-ordinating your 'cuffs. *grin*

Quite frankly, I take advantage of this, and I encourage others to do so as well.
Sprinkle casual conversations with random words intended to trigger off 'terrorist' filters. The next best thing to the government _not_ violating our rights to have to have warrants issued is to give them so much garbage to sort through that the filters are worthless.
I'm not suggesting that anyone that needs/wants to hide do this - those of you who are in transition, or have checkered pasts, should not do it.
Just be sure to add words such as 'nuclear' 'megaton' 'anthrax' 'cocaine' 'heroin' 'angel dust' and so forth into conversations over the telephone to other people.
I should probably get a signature generator for my personal email accounts that does that as well.
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

...you registered the two pieces (Flight by Night being the other) with the U.S. Copyright Office, circa 1989. That record is online, but I don't see anything there that makes me believe the two stories are. (Not that I really looked for them.)

I had forgotten about "Flight By Night".
It was also a pre-trans short story; I'd begun to take myself far too seriously as a literary talent. It was intended to be sort of a flashback to some of the television dramas of the late 50's. It was set aboard a Lockeed Constellation and involved a very stormy flight to somewhere. In a twilight zone way, it involved a harp, some magic, an old wizard and a young woman. I think I may have later changed the title to "The Harp".
So, you are saying it was copyrighted in 1989? I had forgotten exactly when I started to address "the girl in me". I know that I had read "Dear Abby", and "Ann Landers" for a long time. Along in that same time frame, there was a letter sent into one of them in which a woman complained about finding out that her husband wore women's panties. Abby's response to it was that the problem is relatively common, that there was no cure, and to get used to it. At the time, I was such a Fundamentalist that I was completely incapable of critical thought. In fact, I had heard messages from the pulpit condemning critical thought as from the devil.
For me, those words felt like a death sentence. I had struggled off an on with furitive and guilt ridden dressing. As is common with us, there would be the usual initial attraction, the collection of the tresures, and then the being overcome by guilt and then the purging. In the time I was in that phase I suppose that I completed the cycle about a half dozen times.
The advent of the Internet absolutely DID play a role in the development of my Cross Dressing and later Transexualisim. I have no idea how people came to the conclusion that they were actually women inside before the Internet and I would find it really interesting to see if the rate of SRS has increased since the Internet came about.
I am afraid this is beginning to feel like the musings of an old woman who is tidying up her affairs before she dies. Sorry about that.
