so I dreamed that I was back and school, and I was doing so poorly I wanted to quit. A teacher tried to tell me to be patient with the place and with myself, but I kept saying "I want to go home".
Now, I'm no expert, but even I can see that this dream is really about life.

But the nice thing..
About life, rather than school, is that in life you collect friends who value you and consider you a real friend. ( I am pretty sure that many of us here had few enough of friends at school )
They used to say that school was a community, but I never thought that. It was a place we had to be. Now BC this is a community.

what a long strange trip its been."
3000 students
My high school was a magnet school. To get in you needed a recommendation from both your shop teacher and the principal of your grade school. The freshman class was huge (1900) and each year about a third of the class was sent back to their neighborhood high school. My graduating class had only 260 students.
Of all those students, I would claim only two as close friends and about three others as acquaintances. The rest were faces in a crowd. I may have known their name but nothing about them.
So school was a sea of people who didn't count with me and very little else. But then I was a and to a certain extent still am a loner.

As opposed to many others here I had great time in school
Then I went to a school that was a bit different from most schools.
To begin with it was small. It had years 7-12 (end compulsory school and all of secondary school). The number of students was slightly less than 500 in total. This did not apply to my last year there when there were only years 9 and 12 and a grand total of some 120 students.
Second: The school had no official capture area. All students were there as a result of a deliberate choice by their parents who were interested in their children actually learning.
Third; Being nerd(ish) was completely OK.
Fourth: The teachers were quirky and mostly fun. And great teachers.
Fifth: Sports was a non-issue
Sixth: If there was any bullying I was not aware of it.
DITO School Was Vacaation
Loved school because for a few hours each day I wasn't kissing cows, mucking through you know what. Wasn't parked on a tractor, a truck, combine, or other piece of equipment. Wasn't hauling eighty pound hay bales, or tossing cotton back into the trailer.
Yes, school was time out. I liked it, hated it which I guess was a love hate relationship. Friends and relationships weren't because I was either in class or working. I climbed on a tractor when I was five, daddy left me there plowing the field. As I got older the equipment got bigger, excavators, track hoes big enough to pick up cars, bulldozers big enough to bury a car in one push of the blade. semis hauling cattle or construction equipment.
Worked from Detroit to Corpus Christi and hundreds of jobs in between. Here I am back home where the sand will run out of my hourglass of life, where it all began. Farm boy-girl, life has been a blessing beyond measure. I can't recommend the boy-girl part even though it's been educational. Wish it had come with a better road map through life.

Life is a gift, treasure it until it's time to return it. Treat it like there are no do overs.
