but hopefully not the Walrus, koo koo ka choo!

So this week is a bit weird, what with the Bank Holiday and stuff. It was looking a fair day on Monday, Bev didn't need much convincing to go out for the day so we had a little drive out, first to Imber, the ghost village on its last open day until New Year then onto the Caen Hill locks at Devizes where we got a late lunch of tea and a bacon & sausage sandwich. Then it was a fairly straightforward drive back to Brizzle.

Tuesday was slated for an easy, short spin on the bike so i set off for a spin to Bath and back, all of 50km if i add a few twiddles. Now my brother is doing a tour based in Swindon this week, we had arranged to meet up on Friday when he takes his passengers to Bradford on Avon So imagine my surprise when i spotted him parked in Bath when i got there. We ended up chatting for best part of an hour, we're still meeting on Friday but it was an extra chance to talk about stuff.

Today, another warmish day even if its a bit cloudy, was designated as 'scrumping' day. A couple of kilometres walk each way sandwiched an hour and a half of collecting blackberries (@ 2kg), apples (@ 5kg) but i left the figs on the tree as they are still maybe a month from being ready. I didn't find any pears or quince and the few damsons were tiny so i didn't bother. Before anyone jumps on me for scrumping, all of this lot is kosher, everything is in the public domain, hedges and parkland, free to anyone to harvest although very few do. Looks like we'll be having some nice fruity desserts in the next few weeks, assorted crumbles just for starters.

I've not got anymore written but i've been doing some plot developement so things are looking up on the writing front.

It looks like the rest of the week will be busy, the trip to Bradford on Avon on Friday, bike rides tomorrow and Saturday and on Sunday its the monthly cyclist bunfest at Hill. I will of course be posting more new Gaby on Sunday too, the post may be later in the day but i'm sure its worth waiting for!

See you Sunday,
Tschussie,
Madeline Anafrid

kinda intrigued

… about eggs and stuff. I read your posts. Always. Carefully like Bru's stories. Because you're a Brit. But today I didn't get it — egg. What about him?

Had the Beatles in my head, my brain was on a very otherworldly plain yesterday.

We have a local group

That harvests fruit from local trees and donates it to the food banks.

There are a lot of fruit trees people don’t have time or equipment to properly harvest.

My apricot produced 6 little fruit! But I think the birds got all of them.

Time to get the netting out

I have four cherry trees in my garden. Two are capable of producing fruit but the local Magpies love cherries. I have to put netting over them once the fruit has set. I keep the netting off the trees with a simple wooden frame. It frustrates the hell out of my avian thieves but at least I get some fruit.

Didn't know figs ripen here

Didn't know figs ripen here in the UK.
In Cambridge next-door's tree had green figs, but I never saw anything approaching ripe.
