I must like to punish myself.

Right now, I've been re-reading "The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant" and once more feeling all the parallels between myself and the character Linden Avery

If that wasn't enough, I just finished binge-watching "Moon Knight" and I can really relate to the main character broken psyche as well.

I wish I could figure out why I'm doing this . . .

how many if not most of us occasionally seek stories that speak to us about the commonality of life; we AREN'T the only one who lived through difficult times. That's not an exclusionary thing.

We need to kinow that there are other folks, real or written, who feel what we feel. To often our past and the trialswe went through leave us isolated. We gain a measure of encouragement bby knowing there are folks who understand how we feel. And sometimes those moments can be painfully cathartic. If that makes any sense.

... when I was in HS, I began reading the first of the Chronicles -- Lord Foul's Bane, I think. I got too nauseated by the description of leprosy.

You like to punish yourself? I have occasional fantasies of sadism and masochism, as some of you might recall.

Just one trip 'Around The Wheel" will provide more than enough punishment to overflow however many trips around that the Cosmic Bookkeepers give us on the Wheel of Birth, Death, Rebirth.

Took glance at "Moon Knight" - "Dissociate Identity Disorder (DID)"

Turn off the TV, eject tape, return or burn it right now.
!! Don't go back !!

I am ... 'acquainted' ... with what it takes to produce DID. "The Three Faces of Eve" is ... 'mild'. Met her, talked briefly.

I really love The Chronicals

I really love "The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant". they were transformative stories for that part of my life. Stephen R. Donaldson was something of an obsession for me. But I suppose I liked the Gap series slightly more.

There is so much new stuff written that I never seem to have the time to reread stuff. Now you have put the bug in my ear I may have to add them back on my list.

I’ll confess . . .

I think Donaldson is — or at least, was — a brilliant author. In the case of Thomas Covenant, I think he succumbed to a writer’s temptation; he just couldn’t let the character go. He should have stopped after the first trilogy with Linden Avery.

But . . . I absolutely understand why you also think it’s torture. Donaldson is absolutely unsparing in his characters. They are deeply flawed, and then he puts them in situations almost purposefully calculated to exploit every weakness, every character flaw. It’s nothing you want to be reading when you want something uplifting.

Hugs, Dot. Hang in there!
