One of my dogs apparently has a food allergy, so I've gotten her a different type of food.
She doesn't seem to like it. She has taken to trying to bury the bowl with her nose -- unless, I feed it to her by hand. Then, she is quite content to eat the stuff.

Well. That worked. I mixed
Well. That worked. I mixed about a quarter teaspoon chicken seasoning with warm water and poured it over the food. She finished it on her own. Lol!

I will admit that my grr-baby was prescribed this powder ("just sprinkle it over her food, she'll never know the difference). Yeah, right. I suddenly have a corgi on a hunger strike.
After much experimentation, we agreed on a mini cheese omelet - sharp cheddar, none of that cheap plastic stuff. Five years, cooking at bedtime for my grrrl. Tiggress laughed herself silly.

Slightly off topic but that seems to work for us. Otherwise our dogs have been way too good at separating the pill from the treat.

Your beloved companion is merely training you. It isn't her fault you are unable to understand her vocalizations. If you did, she would say something like "While I appreciate that you want to feed me food that doesn't cause allergic reactions, this stuff tastes like charred soggy cardboard" and you wouldn't think twice about finding a solution. Of course if you could understand her, she would have told you that every time she ate the other food, she had an allergic reaction and you would have saved a lot of money on vet visits.
That aside, given how much unconditional love our critters give us, they deserve being indulged.

I claim to make my own chicken stock to save money. Cooking all day for two gallons of stock? No, I'm cooking all of that fat, skin and bones with cartilage to produce a half gallon bag of dog treats! If I miss a bit of onion or celery that gets into the bag I'll find it on my kitchen floor. She likes it mixed 50/50 with rice and frozen in snack bags for days I have no leftovers for her.
My parents rescue Greyhounds
My parents rescue Greyhounds.they recently lost one, but have gotten a brindle one. The other is a fawn-colored girl, and she has contracted Valley Fever (they live in the Phoenix area.)
Mom makes food for them every day over the stove, and I must say, they are wonderful dogs.
My solution (pun intended) has, in fact, worked. She seems to appreciate the seasoning I pour over it. Now, she waits until I pour it, then goes to town on it.
She is a Husky / Aussie mix, so she is quite opinionated. She usually doesn't engage in Husky speak, except in the morning, but she has the definite personality.
She's also a spook. She was abused before I got her, and doesn't trust many people but my wife and me.
She will let me do almost anything with her, except trim her claws. For that, I need someone to hold her. Generally, my daughter.
In the winter, when there's snow on the ground, she is thrilled and loves it. My other girl is a kelpie / border collie, and she probably thinks Mya is crazy, but then Aryssta (the kelpie) always thinks the cats need to be herded, so who is she to judge?

For two years
For two years, I had to make Cuddles's dog food while her vet and I explored what she was allergic to. (Turned out to be beef, corn, wheat and soy.)
For the dog food, I took large sweet potatoes, yams or potatoes, peeled them then steamed them in the microwave for about 5 minutes. Over this I poured the contents of a can of salmon or mackerel, the kind that is cooked in the can on the factory ship with skin and bones included. Add a few peas, carrots, spinach, blueberries or other veggie material I knew she was not allergic to along with some black pepper. (Black pepper stimulates human and canine digestion.) Steam again for a minute then mash thoroughly.
Four or five ounces of this twice a day, keeping it in the fridge and reheating as necessary. Never really had trouble with her allergies again though when buying commercially produced dog food, later, I had to be careful to read the ingredients.
