World circumstances require us to hunker down, self quarantine, social distance, etc.

With that in mind there's a few things we can do at home to pass the time. I've been viewing a pair of Bald Eagles in So. California. Their nest overlooks Big Bear Lake, CA and makes for a pleasant 'screen saver' when they are not in their nest.

One of the site moderators has created virtual jig saw puzzles. Very pleasant and children can play too. Here's the puzzle link:
A link to all the Big Bear Lake Eagle puzzles. Very pleasant.

If you want there is the fine link to the Eagles. It's 24/7 for viewing, less hours if you want to chat & learn.

This site has been around for several years and is enjoyed by many even internationally. Big Bear Lake is in So California about 80 miles east of Los Angeles, 60 miles from Palm Springs & 4 hour from Las Vegas, NV. Not that it matters but BB is about 60 minutes from me!

The nest is in a 110 foot pine tree. The lake is about 7,000 elevation. There are 2 ski resorts in the area. Several movies have been filmed in the area.

I hope this diversion works for you. Enjoy.

Regards,

Dee

PS The nest is located approx at "11 O'Clock", where there's a large inlet at top left of the lake.

In 1977...

We took a vacation in California. Driving UP Big Bear, our view got more and more exciting. And it was the only time I've ever seen an eagle soaring BELOW where I was.

Eagles are a pleasure to watch

There are tons of them in this area in the winter as the river does not freeze over on the lee side of the lock and dams. There's a mated pair that nest every year in a tree right by the house. And many more nest up and down the side of the river in the area.

We the willing, led by the unsure. Have been doing so much with so little for so long,
We are now qualified to do anything with nothing.

Hawk Watching

The other day I got to watch a pair of hawks riding the thermals near where I was dining. They were silhouetted against the storm clouds, so I have no idea what kind they were. But just to watch them circling, climbing and descending, looping out then swinging back in with just a flick of their wings was beautiful. I can only imagine watching the bald eagles would be awe-inspiring. They stayed around for about a half hour before they headed off with a final flap of their wings.

We actually have an area to the east at Lake Keystone near Tulsa where bald eagles gather and winter, along with some nesting pairs. I really need to make time to drive over and see them, since it isn't that far.

I have 4 active bald eagle nests that can be seen from in side the house. The grand nieces and I had fun making bismarck donuts including the icings and fillings from scratch.

sounds good

bismarck

mountaindrake's picture

a bismarck is a typeof pastry bun deep fried that has a filling injected into it with a pastry bag or frosting bag one would use to decorate a cake then an icing on top or is glazed. the filling can be many different things commonly custard but can be like a lemon curd or other flavor of choice. If glazed it is the standard donut glaze iced it is basically a specialized frosting which can be very plain to flavored such as chocolate, butterscotch, or any number of other flavors.

by the way

We are not real fond of the eagles because they like to steal the fish that we are catching as we bring them in.
