Today, after several years of NOT getting any message of any kind prior to accessing Big Closet, today when I tried to connect an odd message popped up... "We MUST check your browser...." - a few moments later I connected as usual. Very odd. Never seen before, years as a member.
Has anyone else gotten this message? Never? If yes, WHEN did you get such a message? I'm trying to make sense of the message; the WHY. I hope it's not a hack attempt.
I will run a couple different security/malware scans and will report IF any oddities are found. I love our site and just want to keep it healthy.
Regards,
Dee
PS Erin? Are you aware of such a 'browser check' for BC?

I got the same thing
Earlier tonight I had the same thing or something very similar, I can't remember the precise wording, but I'd never seen it before today either.
*big hugs*

Don't take me too seriously. I'm just kitten around. :3

kinda spooked me
I just ran 2 different scans
McAfee & Malware Bytes found nothing. Whew! Not sure about tracking thingies.

we must......
this has been popping up on mine for the last couple of weeks, not every time i stop in but frequently. i figured it is because i'm old and cantankerous and still use explorer, or sometimes opera, which seems to be another slightly modernized old browser on this old laptop, and it seems to me it happened at least once on my little rca voyager pad which uses google. i detest google, but thats what it comes with so i;m stuck with chrome.
DDOS attack
We've apparently been under a DDOS attack off and on for some time. We checked a box on Cloudflare to turn on protective routines and the messages are the apparent result. It will probably be morning before we turn them off since I don't know how and Piper is asleep.
They're a minor nuiscance to most visitors but Cloudflare can use their software, apparently, to blacklist bad actors. Maybe this will stop the DDOS.
Hugs,
Erin

It's a minor thing
And if it protects the site I'm fine with it.
Thanx
It's good that we make mention of oddities on the web; we are all in this together.
I can tolerate the notices if I'm expecting them and if it helps this site. Another person posted the same thought. Thnx for watching over us.

Check browser message
I'm getting the same message.
Willow
Yup, me too...
I started getting them to when I logged on last evening on my old tablet (Tab II). I had to shut off desktop mode to get it to connect, but in standard mode I don't get most images! Frustrating to say the least! Hugs, Talia
First Time Tonight
I got the same message. As promised, after a few seconds I was connected as usual. I don't mind as long as I reach my destination....this site!
I'm okay now I know!
I host several domains on a computer running in the back bedroom. I get a pretty heavy user load from time to time and have never seen it bind up like Big Closet does. I was wondering why a pro hosted site would get so slow and inaccessible from time to time. This must be an important site for someone to go through all that trouble to DDOS it! Keep the message and the delay. Now I know what it's for, I completely don't mind.
Best.
Cindy.

Question
Please pardon my ignorance. What is DDOS?
Thank you.
Distributed Denial-of-Service
A distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack is a malicious attempt to disrupt normal traffic to a web property.
Unusual I never received it
What is unusual is although I never received the message, I also never saw any new stories posted yesterday. This morning all the Wed stories loaded along with three Thur stories. I'm filtering really heavy before anything touches my computer. Several times a week there are web sites blocked, they have no security and may be compromised. BCTS went ahead and loaded without informing me of the message but as I mentioned Wed never loaded. I just figured it was writer's day off.
Life is interesting.
Hugs to all the girls who work so hard to keep BCTS up and running.

On a site I use for work, it's there every day
There's a site I use all day long for my job, and I see that same message every day when I first connect. It's nothing to worry about. Slowing down the first connection helps keep the baddies away. Bots are less patient than humans.

No issues, warnings today
There were no issues, warnings or delays today when I logged on. I thought everyone would like to know.

Me too on iPad
Thought it was fishy so closed the tab and reloaded without the message.

we must check your browser...
My suggestion - go online & download Emsisoft antimalware program - it is free for 30 days - full program - not limited.
I use it and it blocked two programs it said were malware when I tried to enter this site.
I've used it for --- uhm... years almost since it first came out. Good program.
Main office is now in New Zealand.
OH! you might need to temporarily disable your present antimalware program as two antimalware programs can ( read that as DO ) conflict with each other.
POOKA
2 bad programs?
Do you recall the names or other distinctive was to identify the files & file types that was found?
I listed the antivirus & malware programs I used... nothing found.
Thnx!

Firewall and Analytics
Some anti-malware programs are too paranoid, I've seen this before. The VPN and distriuted data cloud we use to link our servers together can also trigger a warning.
