Taxonomy upgrade extras:
Well, the upgrade to the server last night went well. Adding more RAM should buy us another year on this server before we need a CPU upgrade. Traffic growth has slowed down for the summer so things are looking good.
Only Bob, Sephrena and I knew about the upgrade, if it hadn't worked I would have just rolled the database back to 1 a.m. this morning and gone ahead with the old memory. The tech called at 1:15 a.m. and was done by about 2:30 a.m. and it works like a champ. :) We upgraded from 2 gig to 3.5 gig (max the motherboard recognizes) for $150. This should help us avoid the bottleneck of lots of large database calls all happening at once.
We can already see that the load on the server has dropped 20% to 50%, so that's good. :)
Hugs,
Erin

Good news!
I've noticed the site has been handling loads better since Bob's tweaks a couple of months ago. It seems pretty common most times I've been here to see 15-20 logged in users and anywhere from 80 to 120 guests with no noticable slowdown. More memory is always a good thing.
I guess we need to start planning ahead for next year, perhaps set up a seperate server kitty? (No, Angharad, I don't mean give it to Bonzi!)

Well...
It was either $1800 set-up and maybe two whole days of work migrating to a new server or $150 bucks for the RAM. For the moment, we've gone with the new RAM. :)
