New authors here can make of this site almost what they choose to make it. The first sites I published on were cranky and one even altered some of my stories such that I almost did not recognize a few. Still they published me and I was grateful. In the 90's I wrote a lot and got chewed out, but improved a lot. The scope of my spelling and grammar errors was legendary.
I am most thankful that even in my early years here, starting around 2005, certain people still massaged my stories and the other day someone told me that I am doing much better than in the beginning.
I notice a bunch of new authors here now and I would admonish you to accept help when it is offered. Some of you may see this site as a place to work out your one handed fantasies, but I can say that there are other authors who got their start here who have moved on to bigger and better things after honing their skills here.
For me, writing is a passion, and my heart dictates the content of my scribblings. I have this insane fantasy of the world being better because of what I have written. For those who are merely here to play, the choice is yours.

At the risk of admonishment, I agree that this is a wonderful place to learn how to write. As a new author I asked a very experienced author
to read my story before posting,she checks for errors in punctuation and other errors. I've found how hard it is to proof read my own work.I then make corrections before posting This makes the story more readable to our fans. Even James Patterson has an editor after all.
