Speaking from experience?
It should. Just a matter which medicine in the 'family' works for you and what dosage and such. Any diabetes will be affected by most of the mood stabilizers like Risperdal and Seroquel (which is what I take). What we deal with is just another part of life, which we share with everyone on the planet.

Hang in there, sweetie. It's crummy that you need psych meds; I know; I've been on that junk for 37 years. Hopefully, the meds will make you feel better. If you don't feel OK, after some time to get used to the med, be sure to tell your shrink. IMHO, shrinks prescribe psych meds using a lot of guess work. It's not like they can culture some bacteria and select an antibiotic that is known to kill that bacteria. If the med doesn't make you feel good, there are various other the shrink can try. Don't let it get you even more down. Try and stay hopeful and if at first you don't succeed, try, try again.
One other thing; some of these drugs made me and other mental patients extra hungry. I and they gained some weight. Complain if this happens, too. Another drug might not have that side effect.
