Well, the job is done. I thought they would give me the whole 2 weeks to try it, but they decided I just wasnt aggressive enough to be able to do it. On the one hand, I am pretty upset about that, but I am trying to focus on the positive. I got a chance to try out being Dorothy in a real-life situation, and didn't do all that badly. But now, the hard part. I will probably have to file Dorothy away and look for a job as Todd. Ah, well.

Fun while it lasted
Hi Dorothy,
Sorry the job didn't turn out like you hoped. But maybe the fact that they thought you weren't cut out to be a telemarketer says something positive about your character. Like when I flunked out of Fat Tony's Mafia Enforcer School on my 2nd day for saying "Pretty pretty please, gimme da protection money."
I'll pray and cross my fingers for you, that you'll find something where you don't have to compromise on being who you are too badly. Even being able to be out with one or two co-workers you've befriended can be a huge help...

It does take a special kind of human being to be able to do that job, and by special, I mean "the only kind of human being I ever raise my voice to" :-P Really, really sucks that your bosses expect you to be pushy (Sorry, "aggressive") because that kind of attitude usually just leads, at least here in the states, to being put on the Do Not Call list in my experience.
On the plus side, you have experience as Dorothy now. It's kind of like your first date. Your second date is always easier because you've had a chance to get over being nervous and actually enjoy it :-D
I do hope you find another job as your real self though.

Hey Dorothy, by and large we all tend to be kinda introverted and are not very agresive, particularly over an impersonal device such as a phone. When you said what kind of job it was, I guessed it would not be a good fit. It has not been for several of my friends. One lasted a week, one two months, but both just found it a bad fit for their personalities. Usually we do better in face to face sales, rather than in the impersonal telemarketing field. Face to face, you can establish a relationship, however short term, and that helps you work to HELP a customer.
So, don"t feel bad about the job going away. The next time you go for a job as Dorothy, make sure it is a face to face job. Even as a receptionist. And be sure if it involves phones, it is making appointments, not sales, and you will be fine,

Selling can be hard
I certainly have always known I could never do it.
I'm just too honest. OK, I mean I can, erm, fudge the facts probably as well as most folks but selling stuff? Not a chance in hell. I always used to say that if I tried sales I would end up being the one doing the buying!
As others have said it takes a particular mindset to be able to hold down a job like that. I don't think it's particularly a female occupation, we don't have the right way of looking at ourselves, after all.
Let the ones who have the bollocks get the jobs talking bollocks. The rest of us can carry on cleaning up the mess after them.
