Okay, so I feel like an idiot. The reason why the TV didn't work was that the power bar wasn't plugged in.
On the other hand, this means I dont have to get a new TV, so yay?

I bought a new tablet computer and I was sure that I was pressing the power button. When it wouldn't start up, I took it back to the store because it was defective. They showed me where the power switch was.
I felt so silly!

Many, many years ago, I went out to ride my Honda to a friend's house eighty miles away. I strapped a sleeping bag to the top of the tank, got my lid on, and the beast wouldn't start.
Cue two hours of checking for spark, fuel, etc, until I gave up and wheeled the bike back into the rear garden. That was when I noticed that turning the bars brought the edge of the bedroll against the bike's kill switch...
TV technicians.
A technician once told me that most service calls are because the device is not plugged in. :)

I spent many decades trying to keep DJs from destroying equipment. Believe me, it's an uphill fight.
I love the story of the customer support person that patiently went through, is it plugged in?, Is the power switch on? Of course, when the person had asked all the questions, the customer mentioned that it was very difficult to check all these things given that there had been a power failure and everything had to checked by flashlight.

Just after I graduated
High School, I was working IT Trouble Desk for local firm, my number one complaint was Blank Computer Screen, after turning on their computer. Of course they never thought to turn on the monitor, same 3 people at least twice a week. Two blondes and a brunet. Now one of the blondes was a guy and I think he just liked to look at me.
