I went to SS office and received two "brochures" from them:

RM 10212.200 Changing Numident Data for Reasons other than Name Change (5 pgs.) 06/13/2013

&

GN 00301.030 Acceptability of Documentary Evidence (3 pgs.) 05/18/2012

The first describes the new potential documents needed for a sex change according to social security.

The second describes what government documents are allowable.

To access the documents go to:

you might

want to edit this and put something that references this as being for people in the U.S.

For people in the U.S?

Do they have Social Security in other countries? I thought they called similar programs by other names. Which would mean there's no point in specifying a country when it's there's only one country it could be.

Social Security

Don't be so provincial. Or should that be Colonial?

We have Social Security in the UK as well. The govt department used to be the Department of Social Security (DSS) until they folded it into the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) - don't ask, probably some doublespeak thing. But everybody still calls the function provided by the original name: Social Security.

However, I agree with the poster. There ought to have been a reference to the US. Our documentation requirements will be different.

Sorry

My only knowledge of your social programs are from vague references in ancient BBC shows. Oh, and provincial is when someone from the countryside doesn't understand the big city, when someone from the big city doesn't understand the small country it's called "normal".

well some do, it is not required, more common convention because of how schools teach it.
but it is used day/month/year also, and other variations

I had to use the link provided by TerryTG

It is about time that Social Security got with the times. This is another step forward in obtaining rights for transsexual individuals.
