Taxonomy upgrade extras:
So, you geeks, please do not try to bully me into using some software that I can not even pronounce. I like to drive computer, but checking oil, and tyres, I cannot! What about my nails! Yallah !!!
So, I usually use Google Chrome with the satanic microsoft windows software. About two months ago, my wonderfully joyous Chrome stopped working. It is now like dead horse! Wallah ! Well finally I understood that Google does infact monitor my every key stroke, so I began just complaining on Google search; Chrome is like dog! Chrome does not work! Chrome is like dead horse that someone shoots in head and now it is like I must drag it. I feel chained to it, like slave!
Well, this tactic is finally yeilding some results. It seems that a couple months ago, Google put out an "Upgrade" Upgrade, if this is upgrade, I wish I did not have!
I am probably going to have to give my tower to someone to let them go thorough it and excorcise all the daemons in it! Thankfully, I know someone like this. And, I still have laptop that I can hook to real keyboard and monitor, thankfully!
So, I may start volunteering at a place that will teach me about Linus. In fact they use Urdu with Linus and they say it makes computer like Abrams tank, bullet proof and all that! My roomate says that maybe I should just buy Apple instead, and that way I can remain Bimbo computer user. I worry that I will be chained to master of evil empire though. This is true, no? Apple makes good stuff but they use a bully business model and I do not like being bullied.

This cracks me up!

But, you gonna help me?
I spent so long building very complicated, PLC controlled industrial machines, that now I am very pleased to be complete computer ditz.

Just
use Chromium in stead of Chrome, it's essentially the same but not Google branded, and presumably free of the evil clutches of them wretched ad pushers. I still just prefer Firefox, because it's just as good, maybe better. It's the original IE-killer. It's genuinely Open Source.
I say: If Google really was serious about supporting Open Source, 'doing no evil' and such blah, they would have seriously taken part and supported Mozilla Open source project(s) openly and constructively, in stead of cooking their onw blend of browser. Which they aggressively push every chance they get. They are worse than M$ with IE ever was!!
Also download the latest ubuntu or kubuntu ISO, burn it with NERO on a cd, or e.g. follow the easy steps layed out by Ubuntu to make a bootable USB. Restart your computer, and boot from CD or USB, and presto: a very usable picture driven desktop just like Window$ and OS-X will be available to you. Free of charge. No complicated intrinsic obscure Linux command line instructions necessary, that's all been taken care of.
I am no computer guru, but I use Linux all the time, and install a new version in about an hour or less, and the system footprint is way less than any other OS I've come across. Specifically waaaayy smaller than Window$.
Don't you wanna be hip? .. All your friends are doing it.. Commoonn, it's so easy.. First one is free?.. :)

If you use Ubuntu or Kubuntu
If you use Ubuntu or Kubuntu (I, myself, prefer the KDE interface of Kubutnu over the Gnome interface in Ubuntu), you can stay pretty close to a Bimbo computer user.
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.
Ubuntu? Kubuntu?
I use Linux Mint Mate and am giving it to my dad because it's very intuitive and easy for a windows user to grok.
Having said that, I heartily recommend whatever your main guru is using. I can help my dad with his Windows XP machine, but I end up stumbling and bumbling a bit, which makes it harder for me to really help him out. Once I get him switched over to Linux Mint, I will be able to spend less time fumbling and more time explaining.
Mint is descended from Ubuntu, and both are big on making it easy to switch from Windows. I would like to say that it's easier to switch to Mint, but I haven't played with Ubuntu enough to make that determination for myself. All I can say is that I have been running Mint for four years, at the recommendation of someone from BC, and I like it.
I played with the new user interface on Ubuntu, and it's really slick. I think it's more for someone who wants a slick interface than it is for someone who just 'wants to drive it.' Also, it takes a decent amount of computing power. If you don't have a newer computer, stick with a package that has less frills.
By the way, the Gnome vs. KDE discussion is sort of like the GM vs. Ford discussion. It's a matter of taste, or religion, or whatever.
EDIT:
Forgot to add:
Go to YouTube and look up Nixie Pixel. She's a geek girl who is beginner-friendly and is good at making things easy to understand.
Is it testosterone? or what??
I know this it off topic, and making wonder if what happened to you might happen to me! Well, maybe not all that far off topic at all.
One of your blogs was "I am Woman, Hear me Giggle!" What I want to know is what's the difference between a woman's "giggle", and a man's "chuckle"??
What's next?
Is it testosterone? or what??
I seldom "chuckle" anymore. Is it because my testosterone is nearly zero?? Have I started down a slippery slope? What's next? Talking on the phone for hours at a time? Oh wait, I already do that.

Or What
It's all in the mind you know...
What's the difference between a chuckle and a giggle? Tone and pitch, no? I imagine you've been dilligently working on the use of your vocal chords AND where you have your voice come from, and to me that's an adequate explanation.
Just as, contrary to general belief, a decent whack in the groin of a man doesn't make him sing soprano, maybe he'll 'eeeep' but that's from the pain, testosterone doesn't change your physical abilities in the use of your voice. At most it will aid in -very gradually- the slackening of the muscle you used for producing that bass or bariton voice, just as it's responsible for the gradual loss of muscle tone and strength.
Oooh, woe is us, for after some years we'll learn we won't be able to change the tires on our car anymore, and we'll just have to stand there looking winsome and helpless, hoping for the help of a strong muscled male. How unfair!
Jo-Anne
Eh...
First I think you have T and E swapped...
And second... I never was a strong muscled male. I was a weak flimsy-armed fat arse male. With protruding belly and butt. No arm muscles even when I tried, and boy did I try once or twice!
I've always had great legs though... heh. Over the years people have learned that my legs are WMD's.

If I were you...
I'd just download Firefox and uninstall Chrome.
You might then want to also add Avast! antivirus software to search out all the malware that Chrome has installed on your computer.

But I liked Windows !
When Windows first came out, like in the 80's and 90's, Microsoft was really helpful and they did not expect everyone to be a geek. :) A couple of you completely ignored my wishes, sob, what am I to do?
I like the features in Windows because they are intuitive and they do a lot! I like the appearance of the pages, too; they are mostly pretty. It is like an extravagant old car. I can put the menues along the top easily, I can save URLs to favorites easily, and when it is good,it is oh so good. :) The problem is, except for lately, Mr Microsoft can't even get hard any more.
I didn't like Chrome at first but it was fast and dependable. Until about two months ago. It used to be that Google search was the smartest thing on the planet, but now, it is pretty easily that they have grown oh so smart about their selective smartness; trying to manipulate and guide me to the sponsors of "their" choice.
I hate to say it but, I think it is either Apple or Linus. But, the people I would be learning from seem very nice and they promised me no T rejection, weirdness bullshit. They set their computers up with Linus first and then add, oh what's the name? Draple, right?
My computer is a 4 year old Dell XPS430 with 6 gigs of memory and a really killer looking vid card; you know the one with the half dressed woman on it? Something has always been a bit off about the chipset, I think. It's one of those duel quad Q8300, 2.5 Ghz ones, but they saddled the poor dear with Vista at first. Gah, what a travesty! I wonder if I should replace it. OR, maybe I could just buy a new Mother board with a modern chipset? The tower is one of those things the doctor doesn't want me to pick up.
Sigh, time to go do the dishes. :(
Gwendolyn
Oh no wonder.
ALLLLLLLLLLLL your problems can be related back to that single problem: Vista.
Upgrade to 7 If you want to stay on Windows for a bit longer. But, honestly... I think 7 shall be the last good Windows version.
It'd be better to jump ship now before it sinks. It's too late to jump before it hits the iceberg. The iceberg being Windows 8.
Microsoft's problem is trying to be everything to everyone for every purpose on every machine. All whilst using the exact same interface for ALL the above. This is astronomically impossible.
What Linux and Apple do instead is use the same core set of applications in the kernel land and then either allow the user to select their own user land applications (Linux) or program in a set of user land applications that make the most sense to the primary purpose of the machine and fits most closely with the largest target user base (Apple).
Technically... If the user knows what they're doing and generates their own kernel, they can customize even that on a Linux machine...
Personally, I prefer the Linux way. But... If you want to fork your money and soul over to Yet Another Evil Empire, then Apple's your man.
