Part One Chapter Two

Previously:

I arrived home and had to explain to Mum why I was late.

ooooo0000ooooo

I went up the steps of our house and fumbled with the key. When Mum opened the door she said “Jason Smith! Why are you an hour late home from work? I've been worried sick wondering if something had happened to you.”

“Sorry Mum I went through the old cemetery to see if it was quicker to get home that way.”

“Well son, it looks like it didn't bloody well work did it?”

“Mum,- let me explain what happened back there, and you'll see why I was late.”

“Ok Jason but it better be good.”

I went into the lounge and Mum followed me and we sat down next to the coffee table.

Mum said “Do you want you dinner first? You must be hungry.”

“No Mum I need to get this of my chest first.”

I told her in detail what had happened in the cemetery. She didn't interrupt me till I ran out of breath.

She said “Is that the cemetery two blocks across from here?”

“Yeah that's the the one! Why?”

“Jason the gates were always locked to keep people out of there.”

“Well they weren’t locked tonight.”

Mum said “Please don't go through there again Jason. It is a historical cemetery and is listed as a historical site.”

“Well the gates should be locked then shouldn't they Mum?”

Mum said she would ring the historical society tomorrow and get them to put a lock on the gates to keep people out.

I said “Mum, what about what happened to me at that old tombstone, that thing

talked to me in my head?”

Mum said, “Let's have our dinner and I’ll talk to you about it after you have eaten.”

After we finished dinner and cleared up we went back into the lounge and then Mum started to tell me about the ''entities'' that roam in the cemetery and that there are only a few people in the city that have had the pleasure of meeting some of the poor tormented ''souls'' that couldn't for some reason move on to the next world.

I said Mum “Why haven't you told me about this before?”

“Well Jason, one of those lost souls is an ancestor of ours and if I’m correct that is why you can communicate with it.”

“But Mum! We have never had any secrets from each other before, why now?”

“Jason, I can see it was a mistake not to tell you but I just wanted to protect you from any danger of being taken over by any bad entities that might be there.”

“Mum this spirit didn't seem to want to hurt me and it pleaded with me to come back.”

“Jason sweetheart, before your farther died bless his soul -- He told me about his great uncle Albert that died in a mine cave-in more than one hundred and ninety years ago. Your dad went to visit his grave about a year before he himself passed away from cancer, and he told me all about what happened.”

“Mum, it was the same thing that happened to me wasn’t it?”

“Yes sweetheart it was, and it was his great uncle so I suppose when you happened to be passing by -- he recognised you as a connection to your dad.”

“Mum, I have to go back in there and to to him and see if I can help him to move on”

“Well dear, I will dig out your dads old diaries that are in the cellar and you can read what your dad wrote about his encounter with Albert”.

I asked Mum if she knew where those diaries were in the cellar, because I wanted to read them as soon as possible, as I would be going back to the cemetery tomorrow afternoon after work.

It was getting late by the time we found the diaries so we went to bed.

I was up at five am and had a cup of coffee and started to read the entries in the diaries that pertained to the dates that Mum told me were relevant to when dad was communicating with Albert's spirit.

I read where dad wrote how he was in the cemetery late one afternoon, about the same time as I was yesterday.

----Diary----

'I was cutting through the cemetery to get home faster to help Mary to sort out the present we had bought for Jason's birthday tomorrow when I heard something like a whisper saying 'Wait please wait,' it was getting quite dark so I really couldn’t see anyone about.'

-----Next entry----

'I was wanting to get home early because it's Jason birthday. He had some of his friends around for a little party, and this time when I passed a tomb stone it got extremely cold and there seemed to be a kind of mist around the grave, I had to get home so I left, I'm going to come back tomorrow and check it out.'

I had to get ready for school so I put the diary down on the kitchen table and made some toast for myself and took a cup of coffee up to Mum's bedroom.

I got dressed and said bye to Mum and headed off to catch my bus to school.

Big Mistake

I hope Jason did not make a BIG MISTAKE by waiting to read the next entry. Perhaps he would have learned what was occurring, and if there was any danger invovled with meeting the "entities". I wonder what dad died of. It seems he was probably quite young (late 30's to mid 40's).

Thank you Roo,

A bit 'spooky' so it will be interesting to see where you take it,but quite enjoyable.
