This feature is really cool.

This feature is really cool. It shows every older story someone cared enough to write a comment about.

Thank you,

Beyogi

So, what's...

What criteria do you use to consider a story "older"? Looks like any story over a year old, with comments in the last month - or something like that.

I like the idea of such a list but I'm not sure if I prefer this format or more of a list format (without the teaser) which would come down faster and provide a longer list.

Thanks for adding this.
Anne

Wouldn't actually be that much faster

It's not drawing the screen or even loading any pix that takes most of the time. It's the sorting. And I could raise the number of stories on a page, but I thought 20 was enough.

Yes, it is stories that are older than 11 months 20+ days, and have had comments within the last 15 days. That filter combo turned out to be about 100 stories.

Erin

Maybe we should have an opposite search as well?

Well, not complete opposite, but for older stories that haven't seen any comments for a while, this could be indicative of them not being read at all... and could certainly be helpful to find oldies but goodies.

It's Interesting

What I've found is that there are people, presumably mostly new to the site, who find one of my stories, or maybe spot the latest chapter of "Somewhere Else Entirely" on the front page, and then go back and read the whole thing.

Occasionally this might also inspire them to try some of my other stories. I'm guessing this means they like my style, but that's because I might just be biased!

Whatever the reason, sometimes I see odd comments out of the blue and I find I quite likes it. Nothing like someone going through one's 'back catalog' to encourage one to write some more.

Great Idea!

Thanks Erin,

Since much of our population has been without power for days (7.5 Million) how about stretching this list to 5 or 10 pages so our sisters on the East Coast can see these as their power returns? I have power and have found several stories and authors I want to explore. Why not extend the same favor to our less fortunate members in the disaster zone if only for a few weeks or a month until they can come back on line?

A picture comes to my mind (as weird things often do) of young Abe Lincoln studying his lap-top by candle light.

Thanks for all you do Erin,

Ole
