Most of you know me as Gwen, but recently I realize that when someone uses that name on me it is particulary jarring. Gwen (Gwinn) was my male name, and my ear does not hear a difference between the two. In real life, everyone knows me as Khadijah. I won't bother you with the correct pronunciation as my throat can not form the sounds either. I heard a woman say it properly the other day. NOPE, ain't happening! LOL
Those of you who talk to me on skype, and in person, and there seem to be more and more, could I prevail upon you to call me Khadijah (KA DEE Ja)? I would consider it a great favor, and it's use will help me to heal from the trauma associated with my old name.
I am not even going to bother ADMIN with the idea of changing it everywhere, as I would like to be able to sit down tonight.
Thank you Very Much. :)
Khadijah

Names
Why would you choose a name for yourself that you can't pronounce correctly?
Most of us didn't have any choice with our names, but when you do, you'd think you would choose one you can wrap your tongue around.
I'm not trying to be a smarty pants, I'm really curious.
Mr. Ram
Khadijah, was the name of
Khadijah, was the name of the prophet Muhammad's first wife. I think the wealthy widow he
married, and took over her business holdings. It's my understanding that this is quite the
popular name to be taken amongst women who convert to Islam, as she was the first to convert
to his teachings.
Correction. Apparently she was not a widow. I remember that she was older than Muhammad,
and that she had a highly successful business in trade of goods about the region. It was
she that proposed to Muhammad, after he had worked for her, and shown some flair for managing
the caravan's he was on. Sorry for the mistake. I'll have to check where that widow idea
came from, if I can.

Thank you
I probably will not change my name in Big Closet as the author, because of security reasons.
Much peace
Khadijah
I will do my best to remember!
And may I be the first to formally welcome you, Khadijah?

Whatever else
You should feel comfortable in your skin. If that involves us in calling you Khadijah instead of the other name, so be it.
I suppose to a degree, it was both easier and harder for me. I have been Susan since I was 12, Susie since I was 35 and legally me since 2002.
Welcome sister, from this mad Englishwoman.

Your name and the correct pronunciation.
Hi Khadijah.
I know exactly how to pronounce your name and find it easy because of my Welsh Language abilities. I have no problem producing the 'Ech' sound in Welsh which is identical to the 'Kh' first syllable to your name. I was very pleasantly surprised when the cameleer called out each camel by name as we were riding them and when he mentioned the camel in front of me as Khadijah I was enthralled and amused. After double checking the correct pronunciation (Same in Arabic and Berber,) I repeated her name to the Cameleer. Both he and Khadijah the camel responded and my wife Helen and I had a good old laugh as we took the photo that we sent you. (Hope you liked it, but more importantly your Koranic name is as easy as pie for Helen and me to pronounce in perfect Arabic.)
Next time we Skype I'll pronounce it correctly for we Welsh even have a letter in our alphabet that represents the 'Ech' sound.
Love and hugs darling and do try to recover from the lonliness syndrome.
Maasalama.

OOPs, skype was not on.
Hi Bev:
I'm sorry that I did not tell you, but I went on a bit of a walkabout up to New York State and was gone over night. In the process, I met a dozen girls, and got fed too! :) It is always fun meeting people that I know from BCTS, and those that I don't know.
I'll leave skype on now and it shall be very interesting to see if I am capable of making the correct sound when I am sober.
