For Jeanne, who never saw the November when I missed her most.
November Street
by Joyce
From All Hallows peace through Thanksgiving feast
Feel crisp autumn breezes, see bright falling leaves.
The crowds, how they bustle, the trees how they rustle --
For joys unforgotten my lonely heart grieves.
Ripe apples a nickel, two hugs for a tickle,
The street fairs delight and cold nights need a partner.
We play toesies in bed, talk of books we have read --
Memory's image of love, no edge could be sharper.
How sweet in the morning to wake up my darling--
Still snug between covers, with kisses we greet.
God paints every autumn, so it won't be forgotten;
Love, I'll always remember our November Street.

A hand to hold
I had to go back through your blogs to understand your loss. I have a small grasp of what you must feel, and I'd offer you a hand in support if I could. It's a beautiful poem, thank you for sharing it with us. It reminds me of a song by Blood, Sweat and Tears - Sometimes In Winter, a gentle, melancholy tune. You might like it.

I do like it
There's a little of that and a little of Harry Belafonte singing, "Try to Remember" in the poem since both were going through my mind when I wrote it. I didn't remember the name of the tune or the band but some of the lyrics got mixed in with the Belafonte ones in my memory. I tried very hard to break the pattern up so the inspiration wasn't too obvious.
Thanks for giving me the clue to the other source.
Hugs,
Erin

November Street - remember
Hi,
It reminded me of a song by the Fantasticks:
Try to remember the kind of September
When life was slow and oh so mellow
Try to remember the kind of September
When grass was green and grain so yellow
Try to remember the kind of September
When you were a young and a callow fellow
Try to remember and if you remember
Then follow ( follow ) follow ( follow ) follow . . .
Try to remember when life was so tender
That no one wept except the willow
Try to remember when life was so tender
That dreams were kept beside your pillow
Try to remember when life was so tender
That love was an ember about to billow
Try to remember and if you remember
Then follow ( follow ) follow ( follow ) follow . . .
Deep in December it's nice to remember
Although you know the snow will follow
Deep in December it's nice to remember
Without a hurt, the heart is hollow
Deep in December it's nice to remember
The fire of September that made you mellow
Deep in December our hearts should remember
Then follow ( follow ) follow ( follow ) follow . . .
Hugs and hopes for many happy memories of your loving time together.
Karen
That's the one
I remembered the Harry Belafonte version. My mood was considerably darker, though, more like the Sometimes in Winter song.

Very touching Erin
What a wonderful and moving tribute.

What a Fine Way to Remember
I do remember some of your entries from two years ago.
A poem to a lost love is a fitting memorial. I have not had the joy of a close relationship like that -- too shy, though I do have friends -- but I have lost family I was close too and it hurts.
Remember the love and pass it on to others, it is the living legacy of your lost one. Now you have my crying from my lost ones. Mom, Ann, I miss you.

A Love Not Forgotten
The love you shared was one others can only dream of experiencing. Your expression of it touches us all.
Remember the good times.
