From Target webpage

"At Target, diversity is much more than a goal or campaign. It’s a core value we integrate into every area of our business—from our suppliers, to our teams, to the shopping experience in our stores. We foster an inclusive culture that allows our high-performing and diverse team to drive innovation."

The nation's #2 discount chain (behind Wal-Mart) now operates more than 1,500 Target and SuperTarget stores in 47 states, as well as an online business called Target.com. Target and its larger grocery-carrying incarnation, SuperTarget, have carved out a niche by offering more upscale, fashion-forward merchandise than rivals Wal-Mart and Kmart. After years of struggling to turn around its Marshall Field's and Mervyns departments stores divisions, the discounter sold them both in 2004. Target also owns apparel supplier The Associated Merchandising Corp. and issues Target Visa and its proprietary Target Card.

Criticism
In 2004 Target banned the Salvation Army from soliciting in front of their stores, along with Best Buy, Barnes and Noble, and Home Depot. In 2009 Target donated $1.25 million to the Salvation Army, though the charity states that they would lose over $9 million a year because of the ban. [1],[2] [3]
In 2010 Target contributed $150,000 to MN Forward, a group staffed by former insiders from former Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty's administration. MN Forward ran TV ads in support of state Rep. Tom Emmer who opposes gay marriage. The Minnesota Independent has also reported that Emmer has donated to the Minnesota Christian ministry You Can Run But You Cannot Hide Intl., Inc., which supports the killing of gays and lesbians. Target has been Praised for its Pro-Diversity measures:
Target was named one of the "100 Best Companies for Working Mothers" in 2004 by Working Mother magazine.

Since 1999, Target has subscribed to the Employer's Pledge, which outlines basic work standards that should be guaranteed to every employee and encourages fair and equal labor practices at all levels.

Target Corporation has a non-discrimination policy that includes sexual orientation.

Target achieved a score of 86 on the Human Rights Campaign 2004 Corporate Equality Index which rates large corporations on policies that affect their gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees, consumers and investors. The 2004 HRC Corporate Equality Index rated 250 companies on a scale of 0 percent to 100 percent on seven factors. The company also achieved a score of 86 on the organization's 2003 Corporate Equality Index.

Environment

Target may not be the best of companies on many fronts, but one area where they have been recognized is the support of the environment. They frequently encourage recycling and many of their facilities are sustainable, for example. While they certainly aren't perfect in the field, they generally do better than other similar chains in caring for the environment. [6]

Good Luck

You'll bowl them over!

Ban nothing. Question everything.

Good luck!

But you won't need it. They'd be silly not to hire a wonderful person like you! :)

Peace!

Hey, long time reader, first

Hey, long time reader, first time poster here but this made me decide to finally register to respond.

I'm trans, mtf, and have been working for Target for a few months. Though I transitioned a couple years before getting hired, my old name was still on the application for background checks. As a company they're really into diversity and inclusiveness, they don't tolerate discrimination or harassment over pretty much everything, including gender identity or expression (was impressed they listed both of these). I don't know what the particular store you're interviewing at is like, mine has been very accepting, treats me no differently than anyone else. No hassle over restroom use, pronouns, etc. Pretty much everything I could have hoped for so far.

Good luck!

Welcome

Glad to see another member. Glad you took the time to join.
