Ever done one of those things that was incredibly stupid, but you know you can use it in a story (if you can get over the embarrassment, that is?)
I was getting my brunch (I'm somewhat of a late riser) ready, consisting of smoked sausages and BBQ sauce (Don't judge me! LOL). I was reaching into the door of the fridge for the BBQ sauce, and I stopped myself from squeezing it onto my sausages when I realized that I had found, not BBQ, but Hershey's. Chocolate Sauce.
Now I LOVE experimenting in the kitchen, but somehow, I don't believe smoked sausages with chocolate sauce would be very... tasty? Quite the opposite, I suppose.
Anyway, laugh, cry... Whatever. :-D
(We were out of BBQ sauce. Sigh.)

Personally, I am not a fan of this......
But my sons love maple syrup on their sausage - or eggs, or potatoes, or bacon.
I think that anything sweet with meat is nasty, and as far as I am concerned maple syrup belongs on pancakes or waffles and nothing else. But, my kids swear by it. Perhaps you should try that when you run out of BBQ sauce?

Started as a kid
Coming in from school, always starved to death, right. Two ingredients in the house, peanut butter and a banana. It wasn't only good, it was great as the flavor of each enhanced the other. As long as there was peanut butter and bananas in the house it was my favorite after school snack or during the summer after working in the field all day. The funny part was when my mom tried it. She was hooked too. Ate into a lot of foods I wish I hadn't but don't remember ever adding anything as a mistake.

I vaguely remember eating peanut butter with something other than jelly, bread, or plain. But I can't remember what it was. I think I liked it. Oh, yes. Now I remember: peanut butter and celery. Delicious.

What no ants
peanut butter, celery, and raisins called ants on a log in my area we use sultanas for yellow ants and dried cranberries for red ants.

I vaguely remember trying peanut butter with sweet pickles when I was younger. Only ate it a couple of times, but it wasn't bad.

In my house
When ever we have pancakes we always have fried eggs with a runny yoke. After putting butter and syrup on the cakes we slide the eggs on top and push a fork down through the yokes and twist so as to get the yokes to bleed through the pancakes.
Yum... I've been eating them that way since the 1950s.

My uncle Milton adds bacon and ketchup to that combo my father put peanut butter and jelly with syrup on his and I put peanut butter and a fruit based syrup on mine with a smoked meat on the side.

I usually do put maple syrup on sausage and/or bacon. When I was a kid, my dad and I would frequently put chocolate syrup and peanut butter on our pancakes or waffles as well.
Alas, I don't get to eat stuff like that very often anymore. Very sad.

Tasty combination
A different combination that I like some mornings is using maple syrup as the sweet in my coffee and it adds a distinct flavor of its own to the morning brew.
Chicken molé
Chocolate based molé sauce might be OK on sausage since it's delicious in chicken molé, but the fact that it's not sweet like Hershey's chocolate but flavored with Mexican spices makes all the difference in the world. Still I've seen weirder things than chocolate covered sausages being sold and consumed at the State Fair. The incident might be amusing in a story given the right set-up:
Lost in thoughts of all the horrible and wonderful things that had happened during my night out as Henrietta and what it all might mean about who I was and what I should do about it, I went through my morning in a sort of daze; A state of bemusement that I was only brought out of when my roommate Wendy cried out: "Henry! Are you putting HERSHEY'S SYRUP on those sausages???"
I looked. Sure enough I was.

Since my protagonist is a chef, I thought when she's mad at her husband, she might be so frustrated that she does something like that.

The question is, would he eat it or say something. He's got a sense of humor, so he might eat it, THEN say something about her needing to make it for him again. Stranger things have happened.

My 'worst', and a little learning and a Big Learning
I think my "worst" was my going to refill my orange juice glass ... and pouring the OJ into my coffee - which instantly curdled the milk already there :O. I figured, it all goes down the same pipe, so ... Not tasty, and I do not recommend.
Little learning: at a family camp-out, a young girl suggested trying peanut butter on a slice of apple. I learned that combination is tasty! :)
Big Learning: We can (and should) learn from everyone (and everything). It's a big mistake to think someone is 'too young' (or too low status, or too different from us, or ...) to know/teach us anything ...
