Well, it seems like my depression is lifting. I got some things done yesterday (shoveling the walk, laundry), and I even got a couple of sentences written on a story.
its not much, but I have hope again that I might actually get a story (or at least a chapter of a story) finished before the new year ...

Shovel your walk ?
Oh, you poor thing! You had to shovel SNOW? I hope not to have this problem until just before Christmas

Not all that unusual out on the prairies, especially in Canada, specifically Edmonton, which is where Dot lives, and further north. Snow storms there come as early as September depending on the winds and temperatures, and often as late as May.
The website I just checked says that snow has, on occasion, fallen in Edmonton in August (start of season) and June (end of season). The information on that website is slightly out of date, it was collected between 1981 and 2010 at Edmonton City Centre Airport.
I live in Toronto, and we generally don't see a lot of snow, although that varies from year to year. We rarely get a snowfall before December, or have snow fall in April, but I've seen snow here in mid-October and in late April or early May a few times in nearly 30 years.
Edited to add: Edmonton had their first snow this year on September 19, which fits in with what I said in the first paragraph.
