Doctor's Log

Author's note: On Facebook, I belong to a page called Transgender Trekkies. On that page, we have our own starship, the USS Jorgensen, and there I am known as Doctor Dorothy Bellion, AKA Doc Huggles. Just for fun, I made a excerpt of the doctor's log, and now I want to share it with you ...

Excerpt from the personal log of Doctor Dorothy (Dottie) Bellion:

Stardate: Classified.

The captain has authorized me to release a portion of my personal log, as there seems to be some confusion about just what I do aboard ship.

I understand that confusion. As long as we do not have an away mission ongoing, people may easily believe I have “nothing to do”, as our crew is normally exceptionally healthy. But even when the med bay has no patients in it, I have plenty to keep me occupied.

For example, I have a number of medical textbooks downloaded, and I review them often, especially those that focus on life forms other than humans. Having a good grasp of at least the basics of the various races who are represented on board means a faster response time if something happens, which can be the difference between life and death.

I also get posts from doctors on other ships about the things they have encountered, and what treatments were successful, if any. Although we are not having any away missions at the moment, it’s always better to be prepared than not.

And of course there is the huggle machine, my own little invention.

I wont tell how it works. That’s classified. But I can medically justify huggles as being a powerful tool in the psychological and physical recovery of people - that’s been proven.

Fortunately, the captain is in favor of them, and many of the crew have come to enjoy their “treatments”, so there isnt much issue on board this ship.

But the process does take some of my “free time”, what little I do have, so I appreciate it if no members of the crew try to tell me I have “nothing to do” ...

The end. (for now ...)

Bunny huggles?

Doin' the bunny hug and cuttin' the rug...

Short and sweet

May I also add that a star ship doctor performs routine medical examinations on the crew including the captain and reports the results to Star Fleet medical so each officer's records are up to date.

Any machine which can stimulate the pleasure centre of the brain must be of great therapeutic value. Doing so at least partially cancels out any pain or nausea being felt by the patient, giving a sense of well being.

studies have been done on hugs

and it really does have a positive effect both psychologically and physically

A vast improvement on the 20th century hug machine

laika's picture

A decade or so I read an article about an animal behaviorist who invented a "hug machine" because she had autism and as much as she wanted hugs she couldn't stand people touching her. Unable to remember her name (Temple Grandin) I googled "autism hug machine" and found this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hug_machine

Amazing the way she overcame being told she was feeble minded from a young age and went on to a professorship; but her device sounded more like a squishing machine, pretty cold and impersonal. But with the technology you have available I'll bet your machine records the essence of a huggle---all the warmth and love of being hugged by a real person---and gives it to they who need it; a transporter reproducing the physical sensation while some kind of empathy transmitter beams the emotional content directly into their brains. Nice, but I do sorta worry about Ensign Barkely finding some way to use the thing inappropriately, because if anybody could it would be him...

Hugs, and happy birthday!

the portable version is so

the portable version is so simple, just a compression vest with an oversized blood pressure cuff inserted. And it works too!

I'm told STFU more times in a day than most people get told in a lifetime

a real life hug machine!

giggles. my version is much more warm and fuzzy, though!

Autistic hugs

There are a number of ways to put the squeeze on autistic people. Someone brought some demos to a group we used to attend. Some of the kids tried them.

Personally, I like laying under a pile of blankets when I go to bed. It helps if the bedroom is nice and chilly.

Huggles machine

Huggles machine is ok but I'd like huggles team more.

me too!

piles and piles of huggles !
