You should look at a map of Mexico, like from Google Maps. Guadalajara is a major city, but it's not on coast and not a port. There are many cities on the Pacific coast. I don't know about their port facilities, but it's easier to believe in fictional port facilities in a coastal city than in a city some 100 miles inland.
