This story is offered up as forming a part of the “Tales of Anmar” series of tales.
This is a whole universe of inter-related stories written by Penny Lane, Julia Phillips and Diana Ouida Wonder. “Somewhere Else Entirely” and “Julia of Blackstone” are among many of the tales on offer, in fact a further two chapters of “The Voyage of the Visund” were released fairly recently. Please investigate their story indexes here within Bigcloset Topshelf.
In addition, there is also an excellent website “palarand.org.uk” which contains maps, timelines, indexes along with the yarns themselves to which access is by invitation only. Should you wish to seek entry please drop an email to “mailto:[email protected].”
This saga follows on from the story “The Prophecy” which is worth reading in advance if you have not come across other tales related to this universe. Ideally you should read “Somewhere Else Entirely” first, but this is not essential as “The Onward Exploration Saga” is a complete tale in fourteen parts and can be read in isolation. The story has been completed already and will be published in a steady manner over the coming weeks.
All events related to are purely fictional, and any similarity to people or events is purely coincidental. All errors, mistakes, opinions and omissions are mine and mine alone. I hope you appreciate reading this offering as much as I have enjoyed writing it. Many thanks to Penny Lane for all her help and encouragement and for allowing me to add my offering to this body of work.
Take care.
Iona Laing.

Anmar Continuation?
Sorry, I've read all of SEE (as far as I know, anyway), and just reread Prophecy, but I can't find anything to tie these stories (which I've just now discovered) to. Where do these connect to Anmar, other than obliquely? I mean, I'm guessing this might be another planet or two the Beings settled. But other than that, I see no obvious connection. As well, if that is true, how does this match up, time-line wise? That one country (Masonville) seems to have got ahold of a copy of Mein Kampf.

Indeed it does
At the very end of The Prophecy there is an interaction between Karin Ross and Ramon Suarez.
The assumption is that the Karin and Ramon referred to in the first chapter are those two people, perhaps four or five years down the road. They are married and have joined an exploration expedition.

For the most part
Names like those I ignore. Names are like a certain part of the anatomy, everybody has one. Quite often names can run in a family and first names only are not what I consider conclusive proof of anything. So I thought nothing of it. Frankly, I considered them throwaway data.
Also, I expected more substantial defenses considering the humans just came off an interstellar war. To crumble under the onslaught of such a third-rate country does not speak well of the human side of that war. Amazing the human side won!

Hi Karen
Sorry you find this start a bit tenuous.
Yes, the characters are being established in a quick manner to set the scene for the rest of the story. The many wars between Masonville and Granaria are supposed to have to taken place in their recent(ish) past and have resulted in a relatively peaceful period. The apple cart is in the process of being rocked.
The story draws on human history, how many instances do we have of one group of people developing an advantage over their neighbours and invading. You can go back to the ancient Egyptians, and many civilizations' before them, through the Roman's to Germany, to more recent and current threats to world peace. There's a major upheaval we are all facing now, from countries bullying others, it has happened repeatedly hasn't it? Sadly probably always will as we humans seem determined to not learn from history and keep repeating the same mistakes ad infinitum!
This story is simply that, a story. A story of what happens to a group of individuals in exceptional circumstances. Just like a TV program or film. Star Wars has a similar premise. And no, I am not claiming my offering is in the same league, I wrote it simply because I have enjoyed the whole body of work that precedes this tale timewise. I didn't intend it to rock the boat and call into question Penny, Julia and Diana's previous works. I enjoyed writing it, pure and simple and I hope you can accept it in that manner.
This is "fanfiction" to use a term that crops up from time to time. I hope you can enjoy the rest of the story.
Take care. Iona
