Voices – a poem by J Morose

In the dark of night I hear her calling,
The whispering lilt of her voice divine,
Within the mind's depths and shadows falling,
I now know that her sweet voice is mine.

Once more this night in restless slumber deep,
She calls out to me easing my sorrows,
Haunted shades of torment within my sleep
washed blithely away until tomorrow.

Cast adrift in an ocean of customs,
Buffeted furiously along the shore,
She calls me out of my mind's doldrums,
And makes my shattered heart cry 'more!'

Plodding onward once more, the path unclear,
'Who the hell am I?' shrieks my clarion call,
Once more she comes to me, voice sounding dear,
'You are my other me, I am your soul.'

Thought I'd try my hand at something different, not very good, but sort of describes where I am at right now. Hopefully, normal service should be resumed shortly - Jay.

It sings

to our hearts. That is what verse is for: to communicate to our feelings. This does that so well. A Siren's cry that sings, not to trance us upon the rocks but to save our very souls from the Scylla and Charybdis of the expectations of others that we face each every dawn to dusk.

Thus I disagree with you. This is good!

hugs!

'You are my other me,

I am your soul.' The poem itself is 'way beyond nice. And how do you suppose a reader of these pages is going to escape the final line? Not that most would want to, because it really is rather sublime.

You do "something different" rather well.

Voices

Your verse is quite touching because I know so many people who share their 'inner space' with more than one 'voice'. I have felt the torturous conflict of two opposing genders. You are not another Robert Frost. But, then again, we're not interested in mending stone fences as much as mending people.

Truly, Kelly
