Fascinating
I think it’s reasonable to extrapolate from the differences between the percentages for young people and older people that substantial numbers of trans adults would not publicly identify as such. If trans people, out AND closeted, were close to 3 percent of the population, that would put the number in the neighborhood of ten million people. But of course, we’ll never know now.

Your Percentage is Close
In my research which is NOT scientific by any stretch of reality nor imagination the percentage you posted is close if not on the numbers. I contacted all those I could over a span of forty years. Some were open about being trans and there were those who either refused to respond or asked to not be named. There is a squish factor if those who didn't respond and those who asked to not be named were truly trans or if they had been misidentified by others or the articles naming them? Or a third factor, they were busy and a response wasn't important enough to answer.
Hugs Emma, I believe your percentages are on the money.

The current US DOJ is building 1000 concentration camps in the lower 48 states. They will need to fill them in order for the private contractors to make money and therefore donate to the grifter in chief. Guess who will be a prime target for the big roundup?
I know that this is political but we as 'T' people need to be aware that we are on a list somewhere in the DOJ as subversives.

"Estimates of the transgender population in the US have faced challenges, leading to debates about whether the percentage is accurately reflected or underestimated.
Here's why this is a complex issue
Lack of comprehensive data: Until recently, the US Census Bureau did not collect data on gender identity, making it difficult to get a definitive count.
Reliance on surveys and variations in methodology: Researchers have had to rely on surveys for estimates. Different survey methods and questions about gender identity can yield varying results, leading to a range of estimates from 0.5% to 1.6% for adults and even higher for youth.
Social factors impacting self-reporting: Social stigma and discrimination may deter some individuals from openly identifying as transgender in surveys, potentially leading to underestimates.
The evolving understanding of gender identity: The language and understanding surrounding gender identity are continuously evolving, and some individuals who are gender non-conforming may not explicitly identify as "transgender" in surveys, which could affect the overall estimates.
Evidence of potential underestimation
Detransition reasons: Studies show a significant number of transgender individuals who detransition do so due to external pressure and non-affirming environments, according to Healthline. This indicates a potential suppression of transgender identities due to societal factors.
Comparison to gender non-conforming population: Research suggests that the gender non-conforming population, which includes individuals who don't fit traditional gender roles but may not identify as transgender, could be significantly larger than current estimates for the transgender population alone."

The bottom line here…….
Is that there always have been transgender people, and there always will be transgender people. I have seen reports for years that estimated that the actual transgender percentage of the total population is more than likely close to 3% (if not more) based on the fact that the younger generations, where admitting your status as transgender is more acceptable, are showing in that range. Those of us who grew up some decades ago are much less apt to admit our true gender identity as it carries massive stigma and cultural issues to do so.
We were raised in a different time where being identified as homosexual, or lesbian, or God help us one of those people, was a quick trip to physical abuse or even death. Even most of us who grew up in the 60’s or 70’s were not able to express ourselves as our true gender. In my case, it was totally unacceptable to my family and culture to be seen as anything other than completely male. Bigotry, prejudice, and homophobia ruled the roost.
Hence why studies show a decreasing number of those who admit to being transgender as the ages of those being surveyed rise. Hell, I was into my fifth generation before I admitted not only to myself, but to everyone else as well, that I was transgender.

close to 3%
Back in the seventies, a study by Dr. Richard Doctor (I always smile thinking, "He's Dr. Doctor) suggested 1 in twenty or 5%.
I remember when showing any emotion other than anger would get you in trouble. I tended to cry easily all the way up to seventh grade. When in shop class during a mechanical drawing element because the teacher said my lettering wasn't bold enough and compared it to another student who had used a number 2 pencil rather then an H4 the class required I broke down crying trying to defend myself. I then learned not to cry in public.
The fifties and sixties were very repressive time for the likes of us. Bigotry of all strips was acceptable and voicing an objection to it got you labeled a "goody-two-shoes." You were looked down on because you accepted that those people existed and were alright with it.
