Heads Up!
Melanie and I are going to be staying in a motel tonight, and we may have to do it again in a few days or a week. I no longer feel safe trying to use our shower; we've got someone coming Friday to take a look at installing a more accessible bath.
So, I'm going to take a one-day vacation from the site. I'll have my laptop with me, but may not turn it on, who knows. Piper will be watching for problems, and we should all be fine.
Play nice.
Hugs,
Erin

Seriously — I hope you both take some time to relax. We’ll have a kegger for sure, but I promise we’ll clean up afterwards. You won’t even notice!

So Many Falls
Happen in the shower. I now have a shower chair and grab-rails and I still take extra care. I hope you get it fixed satisfactorily. We can't afford to lose you!
Shower Danger
I'm running through my memory all the showers I have worked on. I am NOT able to pull up any which were "dangerous". Broken fixtures, holes in the walls, cracked floors, some truly nasty, a couple had built in seats, and some had safety bars. In the nursing homes some had emergency call cords, but dangerous?
Hugs Erin, a day off isn't unless you really let work go and relax physically and mentally.

Stepping over the tub wall
My wife has reached the point where she can't step over the side of the tub in order to get into the shower; hence unsafe.
I'm having to shell out 15 grand to get a walk-in shower in our manufactured home. The real problem is that most places won't do manufactured homes. None will do them if they aren't on their own property.

using bathtub when frail
Hi, Patricia,
15 000 is an absurd amount of money for installing a new shower.
Have you and your wife ever considered something like this?

https://www.sani-fuchs.de/schlafen-und-wohnen/hilfen-fuer-ba...
Much more affordable and can be used even if a person is not able to stand.
Something similar should be available where you live, too.
There are many seat option for the shower
However it more getting in and out. I'm not able to lift her so she would have to balance on one leg (and I'd have to assist) step over and then take her weight on the other leg while lifting the other one in then turn to sit on it. Her arthritic hip would make that impossible.
Yes, you're right 15K is a whole lot more then I want to spend, but right now she's reduced to sitting on the toilet with a wash rag to bath and I have to wash her hair at the kitchen sink.
Hugs

Back
A great bath was had by all, and a decent night's sleep. :)
If we do this again, we'll combine it with a visit to some tourist spot, but the hotel we stayed in, La Quinta was great.

"La Quinta. Spanish for . . .
. . . 'near Denny's.'" :)

LOL
Well, we ate lunch at Denny's, we have an excellent one nearby, but La Quinta means "the quiet one." It's a low-to-midprice chain, and this was a very new one. It was perfect for what we needed, and we left a five-star review. :)

Couldn't resist!
I don't know if you remember, but "Spanish for" was one of their long-running ad campaigns. You know, "La Quinta -- Spanish for 'clean rooms.'" "La Quinta -- Spanish for, 'high-speed internet.'" The "near Denny's" tag is, in my experience, far more universally accurate than any of the ads they actually ran. For some reason, La Quinta and Denny's go together like burgers and beer. Still, I'm very glad yours was a five-star experience.

Oddly
Never saw those ads! But I haven't watched TV regularly since MTV was about the music. :)

it's great you found great eats
I'm just wondering here in the States. There seems to be an ongoing debate about tips. I like to tip for good service, but some want an extra $25 added to the bill regardless of the service.
Spanish for …
Actually in most of continental Latin America quinta is a weekend house (or estate) located on a bigger parcel of land, with gardens and leisure facilities (pool, tennis, grill, etc.), located outside of but still near to urban centers. Until the mid 20th century a quinta was usually owned and used by one family or clan. In recent times and with increased urbanization quintas have generally evolved into retreats or camps with catering facilities and hostel style dormitories or hotel style rooms. Most now pay for themselves with hospitality services.
In a few cases (mainly in Perú) quinta also refers to a gated neighborhood developed by a single real-estate developer. Likely as a result of many such enterprises having started as the conversion of a weekend estate into a suburban development.
