THIS COMMENT IS NOT MEANT TO DISPARAGE THE WORK OF ANY OTHER AUTHOR.
I have been thinking about what my favorite TG might be and my thoughts keep returning to "Captive" by Melanie Brown. In some ways parts of it parallel to parts of my own life. For me, as with the protagonist in the story adapting and accepting is what is available. It is not such a bad life. It got me out of a painful marriage with a drunken abusive woman.
I did not endure the kidnapping and torture in the story, but the end results are much like mine.

Can It Be My Own Work?
Because I absolutely loved writing Some Kind of Wonderful, still my favorite story I've ever written LOL.
Some Kind Of Wonderful
Thank you. I will have a look.

Mine is 'For A Girl'
My favorite story is probably 'For A Girl' by O2bxx. It's not overly complex and the story line is full of predictable tropes but that is part of what makes the story great as it doesn't try to break new ground. The author created a main character who is easy to like and we accompany their journey as they face a steady drumbeat of changes. This is my go to story whenever I'm feeling down and need a smile.
I've always wondered what happened to the author, O2bxx. They wrote two stories on Fictionmania then disappeared. I wonder if they know how many people have enjoyed their creation. 'For a Girl' is timeless and one of those 'hall-of-fame' stories I hope TG sites make sure they keep alive so it is still being shared in a hundred years.
Great choice!
I agree, For A Girl really is a brilliant story. I almost nominated that one myself, but in the end Kate Draffen just beat it (only just, though!).
One of my favorites, too
In fact, O2bxx's "For a Girl" is probably the reason that I took up writing Pete's Vagina. Which I just reread and in the postscript she expressed the though that a male athlete whose passion was gridiron football would have to give it up. Hmm. :) Maybe not so fast.
O2b's smooth prose, intricate plot, emotionally telling descriptions and sheer intensely good storytelliing is a hard act to follow. But I'm trying. :)
A new chapter of Pete is going up on Patreon this week and will be on BC next week. I hope it compares favorably with the story that heped inspire it.
Hugs,
Erin
= Give everyone the benefit of the doubt because certainty is a fragile thing that can be shattered by one overlooked fact.
Hmm, favorite story?
Hmm, I would have to say it's Brenna Ramsey's D.O.A. is a shortish one that is my favorite, followed by Red MacDonald's Jihad. Just my own observations. One was powerfully different take on an older movie, while the other was Red's magnum opus that, while a different genre, was just as powerful as an action story. We all have different tastes /shrug
Actually it's a trilogy
A trilogy by Hebe Dotson. They used to be available on Crystal's storysite.
"Half Brother", "Half Sister Too" and "Sisters Three"
Alas, Crystal's is not there anymore. I have them in my personal archive.
"Half Brother" is a story about a guy (Paul) who discovers his brother (Matt) likes to wear his sister's (Amanda or Mandy) clothes. Being the good sibling he was, he kept the secret, but often called his brother, "half-brother" Matt had been dressing in her clothes whenever he was alone for over a year. Paul puts up with Matt's dressing when it's just the two of them.
Matt cajoles Paul into helping him go out for the first time. While out, they end up buy a skirt for Mandy's Christmas gift from the two of them.
"Half Sister Too" is Matt telling the tale from there forward. He'd been after Paul to try it out for some time and finally got him to try it and Paul was hooked. On Paul's first time out dressed, they are caught by Amanda.
"Sisters Three" is Maddy's turn to continue the story, She agreed not to tell the 'rents but on no uncertain terms made it clear that they were to stop borrowing her clothes. Not to be denied the half-sisters buy their own tops and lingerie and Mandy gets used to seeing them dressed. After a time she rents them dresses and then takes them out to teen dances on Saturday nights when their parents get a set of concert series tickets and attend concerts each Saturday. They enter a talent competition and perform on a Saturday. It turns out that their contest is the fifth concert in their parents series.

Those Were Three of My Favorites...
...around 20 years ago. (They're dated 2003, 2003 and 2006.) I was hoping for a fourth one from the POV of their friend Fiona, but it never happened.
Anyway, they were saved frequently by the Wayback archive. Here's one set:

Too much choice!
There are far too many good stories out there to really pick just one. I have loved the vast majority of Tanya Allan’s work, and Avia Conner is probably my favourite author, but if I had to pick out just one all time classic, it would probably be Kate Draffen by Swishy. Such a shame they don’t appear to write anymore.
For Me There Is Only One
'Dimelza's' story "Mister". It was here at one time but is still available on FM.
Mister
Mister is a great story. It's told in a quirky little way that make you smile as you read it.

Special place in my heart
I’ll always have a special place in my heart for Rebecca Anderson’s Wild Horses. It’s a well-crafted story with characters who feel incredibly real, and who have relationships that are fragile and touching. The ending felt a bit rushed to me, mostly because it didn’t match the pace of the rest of the story. But it was the story that brought me to BC, and it was the first piece of TG fiction I’d read that went beyond simple tropes and titillation. The first I read that took our stories seriously.
I’ve read many, many more great TG stories since, by authors I have come to treasure. I’ve even tried to write a few myself! But you never forget your first. ;-)

Favourite story
Stand-out favourite story ever? Right now, the story I think I most want to read again would have to be 'The Little Black Dress of Joy' by Tanya H. In fact, I might just do that: it's a wonderful piece of TG fiction. Link.
Happy reading, whatever you choose.

Maybe more than one
I will nominate two stories. Because one has had to be “unpublished” here on BCTS due to the controversial intellectual property hijacking by Amazon and/or Kindle.
I regularly like to re-read “Frills” by Alecia Snowfall. As a victim of mobbing through most of my K-12 schooling myself, I can strongly identify with Lana. And I find encouragement in how just two REAL friends can have such a big positive impact on the life of one person, and by extension and ripple effect a whole community.
The other story falls more into the category of fantasy and wishful thinking. In “VentureRealm Amusement Park”, also by Alecia Snowfall, the victim of parental abuse is visited by some fortunate luck and sets out to make a childhood dream a reality building a safe haven for all children.
So many!
The one I think I have re-read most often would be "The Station's Late Night Princess"
Teri Ann
"Reach for the sun."
Ahh another classic
I loved that one too.

Yup, that is another one from
Yup, that is another one from the “must re-read regularly” list, together with “The Pom-Pom Fortress”.
Lets not forget
"No Half Measures" by Jenny Walker. Another classic that should not be forgotten. And I agree with the other selections on this thread including enemyoffun's self nomination. ;-) Some true classics. A couple of others, "8 Dragons Saga",Crystal's "Texas Gal" and "The Oracle of New Delphi." I've always loved the last couple of paragraphs a thousand years after the events described in Oracle. What an ending. Lets not leave out Beverly Taff either, "Skipper" and "The Angry Mermaid" are a couple I've reread several times. Then there is Anghrad who's EAFOAB kept me coming back to this site every evening for several years to get a fix. Conclusion - can't pick a favorite.
Lots of great stuff
A few out of scores of my favorites -
No Half Measures by Jenny Walker
The Flying Babalooskis by Laika
Becoming a Team Player by Jennifer Richardson (Strictly on FM)
A Tapestry of Stars by Dorothy Colleen
My apologies - there are a bunch of folks here who bring me great joy through their writing. I'm so blessed!
Love, Andrea Lena
It's a tough assignment...
So many stories come to mind. So I'll just mention the first few that still live in my memory, unforgettable as they are.
I could go on and on...

Switching Playing Fields
The story that I can't get out of my head is
Switching Playing Fields (https://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/fiction/17451/switching-playi...), for several reasons. (1) that it creates such nostalgia about how I wish my teen years could have been, and (2) it has a very positive emotional tone and feeling of community.
And (3) in the end, of course, the goal...

thats a hard question

Favorite Story...
(There are links attached to the titles here.)
Well, the one I've read most often here is Erin's "Josh the Mermaid". Short and sweet.
I think the last time I answered that question was around ten years ago; my reply than was Sara Lynn Morgan's "Samantha"
Actually, here's a blog entry from 2019 in which people chose their top five. So I guess that's the last time I looked. though it appears I listed about a dozen in varying lengths. And that was before Emma Anne Tate materialized here. (Interesting: "The Doorway" just showed up as a Random Solo. That's the story of hers that I've re-read most often.)
Anyway, Thliwent's Going There and Back Again and Flummox's A Blank Page were presented as multipart (so they can't come up as Random Solos) and they're the only story under that byline (so one can't reach them by reading other stories by that author). So I like to include them in lists like this.
Eric
Three stories, if I may:
Just about every story I've read here has given me "Happy Sniffles". Sometimes, many times per story.
Picking one story, out of all the stories I've read here ... would be a tremendous amount of work. So I went with the much easier and quicker "First ones that popped into my head."

The Cynthia Chronicles: https://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/book/18023/cynthia-chronicles by Portia Bennet
I'm pretty sure this is the beginning, but starting with one of the other others will not be all that confusing:

Lilith Langtree
For me, and without wanting to disparage anybody else, it would have to be one of Lilith Langtree's , though I'm not sure which would be my favourite out of 'Either Do It Right or Don't Do It At All', 'Royalty Consists Not in Vain Pomp', 'The Society' and 'Pixie'
