Where does the time go?
Yep, today marks the first anniversary of my best friend passing, the pain of his loss is still lurking large, gone but most certainly not forgotten. I'll pop in to see his widow when i go up to GOC in November.
So what else has been going on this week? Monday i took myself to the Swedish shop, i'd not been for a while plus i wanted some preserving jars. It was a bit of a miserable day but i stayed dry, managing to dodge the showers that blew through.
Tuesday was forecast a lot better, drier and warmer than my last bike day. It was only a short ride down to Clevedon for a mucky burger then an equally short return to end up with 75km for the day, not exactly a long ride, but it felt enough for the day.
Today is back to damp but my only plan for outdoors was to fetch some 'gredients for my next batch of chutney. Todays batch has apple and figs added to the mix, it's not got quite as much bite as the first batch but that's not a bad thing. I've not decanted the finished product yet but i think i need to fetch more jars!
The forecast through into the weekend is looking okay so i hope to get in a couple of nice rides, maybe without so many layers on!

Loss is painful
The loss of a loved one is never easy, especially if it was unexpected. And the memory can be painful for quite some time. Even giving ourselves the permission to grieve is important. And receiving permission to grieve from those who surround us in our day-to-day life can be downright cathartic.
And as we move from the second half of our lives into the last third or even quarter, we need to acknowledge that loss of loved ones will continue to happen. And we should also acknowledge that bottling up our feelings and emotions or a stoic attitude of showing a stiff upper lip because the show must go on is ultimately very unhealthy.
