Got this in an email timed at 1427 today...
Hello again,
Talea has stated that there is mainly just one software problem holding up the completion of the new fm server. When that is taken care of, (if you have ever worked with software you know you can not predict accurately when it will be complete), fm should be returned to us. Talea has been in contact with the software company and they are working on the problem.
Of course, with any new system, there will be some glitches. Let us all hope that they are minor and easily fixed.

Hmmm...
Don't see why. Most of my development has come in on time - for the estimates I've given... Heck, even my guestimates for how long another (competent) developer will take have been pretty good.
Now, if they have no clue WHAT the problem is... Different story. Then it's highly dependant on WHO is tracking the problem down. LOL
Of course, if you write bug free code to begin with...

Not one developer I know and have worked with has EVER accurately estimated how long something will take.

They promise you everything and it is always "QUICK and EASY" "NEW IMPROVED" "BETTER THAN EVER" "THE BEST SOFTWARE ON THE MARKET TODAY!"
Then real people have to use it! OOPS!

Most good programmers
I've known, tend to estimate using the "Scotty Principal". Promise less than you think you can deliver, estimate more time than you think you'll need, and don't admit to anythying. Danged if you don't usually deliver more than you promised, in less time than you estimated.

a rule of thumb I was told once. when someone says it will be 10 minutes. Just double it to 20 minutes then up the time unit 1 stage... 20 hours...you'll rarely be disappointed.

The only problem of course
The only problem of course is that the managers take the estimates, then because they must know better, cut them in half when making promises. Then they change priorities and throw five other things in that have to be done first, and still expect to get the first thing done on time, in half the time as we told them it would take.
