Where I grew up it was used to insult boys "don't be a sissy, stop crying, etc." I have never called anyone a sissy, but I have used it in my stories. This was mainly due to being asked to write about the subject. What I thought of as an insult, I realized some crave to be called and act like "sissies".
The way I see it is, that someone wanting to look, dress, and act in a hyperfeminine way, but not actually want to be perceived as a woman. Possibly a lot of humiliation is involved.
My "sissy" stories do ok on FM, and do well on Literotica. Not so well on here.
I think I understand that is because generally sissy stories are the forced type. Many of the readers on Bigcloset are trans or have trans tendancies. Why would it be humiliating to be a woman?
I wonder about the mindset of sissies themselves. Do they see women as beneath them? Is it that they think it is the worse thing in the world to emulate?
I was shooting (archery) with one of the few female club members a few weeks back. I missed a 40 yard shot and a guy with us said "Couldn't even get that, Are you a woman or something" .I said thanks, but no I'm not. Then I got the standard gay jokes off him.
After another target, he left us. Later I apologized to the lady I was with. I explained that I never saw calling someone a woman as an insult. She told me she thought he was a misogynist arsehole.
I just thought that sort of thinking had gone away, clearly not. I'm sure he would have probably called me a sissy for my answer if I wasn't a bit larger than him.

My sister was "sissy" when we were kids. We used it as a familiar nick name between us kids. She even used it among her friends at school. It was not till she got to middle school that she started going by her given name. I never knew what changed, but she asked all of us to stop calling her "Sissy" and we did. I can only imagine.

Both girls were probably around the same age. Possibly when sports was taken more seriously. Boys who weren't interested were likely to be called sissies.
They may have heard the term and not wanted to be associated with it. I suppose the female equivalent is butch?

I'm not a fan. As you said, a lot of times it's used with humiliation... I can not stand humiliation. I'm also not a fan of the forced stuff which is also associated with a lot of 'sissy' stories. Everyone has their kinks, and I think the way the term is used not only in popular culture but also in the erotic story business is the complete opposite of what entertains me. I'm not going to call out anyone however on using it or enjoying it. Just like I hate watching sports I have friends who love it and can't figure out why I enjoy watching science shows. Everyone has different likes and dislikes and if we were all the same... that would be boring.

To me calling someone a sissy has the same pejorative context as calling them a queer. Though I'm told that the gay community is reclaiming that term. I'm feminine but definitely not a sissy. I was a bit of a crybaby when younger. I had to teach myself not to cry in public. Thankfully I was never called a sissy, only a crybaby.
If a story embraces the term sissy, I simply quit reading it at that point. As Syldrak said, humiliation is not my thing. Some of my stories are centered on a plot that involves a guy either losing a bet or being cajole into wearing women's clothes and some have said that's a form of forced fem.
I never thought of them as that until Holly Snow commented on "Dumb Bet."
If that's forced fem, it's certainly not humiliation.

I see the word Sissy
in a story and I just stop reading. The use of the word is IMHO very much associated with humiliation and forced fem which I do not like.

There are 2 on FM that love the term. They call themselves it. As I said before the word does attach negativity to femininity.
The last Sissy story I wrote was June, that was on request. I struggle to put myself in the mindset, so the stories are never very good.
May have to give up on that type of story.

Certain stories that are cropping up with increasing frequency around the net seem to have no compunction in going way further than what was once called petty-coat punishment - what had been mostly innocent stories with NO coerced sex at least for anyone under the age of 18. Fetishizing a middle schooler USED to be off limits but not so much anymore.

I actually like the idea of taking a derogatory term and owning it.
"Queer" was such a word, but now it is "queer and proud".
There are people out there who are sissies and happy to call themselves that. I think that can be empowering - to be comfortable with yourself even though others regard your nature as something to be ashamed of.
Perhaps in part I say it because I have a legion of sissy fans over on Fictionmania. One in particular, would probably be thrilled to be called out by me - Stephie Girl writes regular gushing reviews, and today's one is a good example:
"Oh Maryanne! What a truly delicious story, and caption. On behalf of the “Giggling, Girly Girl’s Group,” let “Sissy Stephie”, assure You that we all, longed to be “Davey”…The only sissy girl fuss, being over the girly name, each of us wanted to be called! But, let me. Assure you, darling Maryanne, our Sissy Delight, led to much swishing of skirts, and damp panties. A motion was made, to award your delightful story, a contender for our “Sissy Story of the Month”."
I do not regard myself as a writer of sissy stories, but I recognize the genre and do dabble in it, just as I do westerns and SciFi.

I wrote the kidnapping of sissy Samantha for Stephie Girl's friend. That was the last sissy story I wrote. I have seen their comments on your stories, They comment on many of mine too. Usually the "housewife" ones. Very rarely on the trans stuff. It sort of confirms what I thought they liked.
They are very enthusiastic about stories they like.

and really not applicable in any way to at least the majority on this site. Anyone who has transitioned or even gone out in the world as their female self is certainly no "sissy" - it takes determination, courage and strength of character to even start presenting as a woman in public and those who do are neither "weak" nor "sissies" - although that is probably what my father thought of me.
I don't think I've ever met a real sissy, though I'm in no doubt that some are. Certainly not my thing, and sissy, humiliation or forced in the title, keywords or description will usually put me off a story. I've probably missed a few good ones because of it - I ignored Melanie Brown's Drag Queens because of the title, and Emma Anne Tate's Duet part one almost put me off because of the humiliation tag. Neither were what I thought, and both were good.
Each to their own I suppose, it just doesn't do anything for me and I don't consider that it applies to me either.

I understand that. To me, many aspects of femininity are to be aspired to, not derided. The humiliation I think comes from being forced to be something unmanly.
I find that the "forced" stories go down very well as far as readers are concerned. I think TV/CD's like them as being forced takes away the guilt they feel for wanting to be feminine, therefore "weak" and unmanly. My most popular story was about being blackmailed into a feminine role.
It says a lot about our society when it ok to "Man up" for men and woman. Heaven forbid that we may want to "woman up" Oh no who the hell wold want to do that?

I think a majority of the humiliation in the stories is mostly the fact there are people in their life forcing what they're doing... Lots of time it's not a choice and the femdoms are intentionally embarrassing them. So not my thing. It's a completely different thing from someone who is seriously trying to transition of their own accord and feels embarrassed or don't feel they pass enough. Those I can handle.

Being a quiet boy and having been forced to ignore popular sport such as Football I was always termed a sissy at school, my mysoginistic racist Father called me a Sissy and my peer group called me a sissy, then I explored the term and experimented borrowing Lingerie which reinforced things in my own mind and I just accept the term these days. Its interesting to note that I was always popular company for girls in my peer group as they saw me as non threatening. As one TV/TS aquaintance stated when telling her own story - look what a man my father made me today! giggle

I am afraid that after experimenting with lingerie, womens uniforms and swishy dresses there was no going back, I don't think I needed much of a push. Its interesting to note that it is myself who has ended up watching over elderly Mum and Dad, Aunt and Uncle and intervening to prevent others financially abusing them. I lost my Mum last week and now have just the mysoginistic racist, homophobic Dad to watch over! I dont use the label gay, its not 100% a sex thing with me, I would label myself as submissive in nature.(I do love the amusing term "failed male") I have the luxury of an understanding wife who knows all of my peculiarities, yes even before we wed! Sissy for me just works I have given up overthinking it.
