War of the Worlds has been reproduced many times. I am surprised. I just happened upon a delightful preview version of it on YouTube set around the turn of the 20th Century with the long skirts and such. I have been trying to rent the full version of it but the BBC seems reluctant to do so. I even subscribed to BBC and gave my address as Dumfries, but they seemed quick to suss out my treachery. My next approach might be to use something to show my address in the UK, but not be there. I'm reluctant to do that because I do not wish to be spanked.

It is ok but...
At least it is set in the right place and not somehow mysteriously transferred to the USA but I will make exceptions for the classic Orson Wells Radio show that had the US in a real panic.
In normal times, I go to a creative writing class that is held in Horsell Village Hall. The nearby Horsell Common is the epicentre of the initial parts of the book and there are sculptures of the invaders in nearby Woking Town Centre. Everytime I drive to the class, I cross the common and think of the wonderful imaginaton that Wells had to write his books (along with Verne).
The latest BBC series was ok but with reservations. The post apocalyptic landscapes in the last part are to me a clear message to us now and what could very well happen to our planet if we don't get our act together pretty quickly wrt climate change.
Otherwise, it was a decent watch.
Gwen, I think you may need to use a VPN with and endpoint in the UK to see the whole thing otherwise, you might be able to purchase it from BBC America.

Not a fan ...
... of 'War of the Worlds' though I am of other Wells' novels. IMO, although I suppose it was innovative when it was written, now it's become overdone with the number of treatments and become a victim of its own success.
Of Wells' SF novels I much prefer 'Shape of Things to Come' and, my favourite, "War in the Air". However I like his other novels better like 'The History of Mr Polly" and 'Kipps'. There's a vast range of his work that is largely ignored it seems in order to concentrate on a few like WOTW and 'The Invisible Man'.

I've seen the other comments but I think it captures the essence of the original story and I love Eleanor (Demelza in Poldark).
I found the ending unsatisfying
and the tottery tripods of the Martians weren't that convincing. You'd think that something as supposedly sophisticated and advanced as they were would have invented the wheel or hovercraft. It was interesting for a while but became rather dystopian, not my cup of tea at all, though I enjoyed the book when I was in my teens, preferred it to the Invisible Man.
