we had a scare here last night. about 11 PM there was a loud noise, a brilliant light, and the sound of electricity followed by the smell of ozone. I thought it was an electric short upstairs, but this morning when I took the garbage out I discovered someone stole the motion sensitive light we had on our shed. I'm assuming that was the cause of the zap that I saw.

Why steal the motion sensor?
Wonder if they plan on coming back to break in now that there is no sensor to turn on the light?
My suggestion is put up a sign that states, "These premises are protected by shotgun 3 nights a week... You guess which 3."

This has been 'nagging' at me ...
I also wonder if it was preparation for later mischief ...
Another thought - perhaps the light shines so as to bother a neighbor (and on and off randomly is worse), and they are too much of a jerk to come and say, "hey, please re-direct that beam away from my window".
Simply ripping it off suggests someone angry, or someone who is too much of an amateur (or idiot) to know they could have been zapped by live wires...
