The good part is
You know its a problem that needs attention before it gets real bad. And if you can keep it down in the range the doctor wants, he'll eventually drop the frequency from every morning to once or twice a week.

I've been doing that for years.
The test kit is cheap. I do a lot of reading about what Diabetics can eat. For me it is mainly stop Sugar. In time, very much to their surprise, I worked my Blood Sugar down to non Diabetic levels. It takes work. I had pancakes the other morning and thought the syrup was going to kill me. Put me in bed for about 3 hours. So, no more High Fructose Corn Syrup eh?

Log Cabin has a 'no high fructose corn syrup' pancake syrup. There are also a myriad of other options, including maple syrup. Most of them, unfortunately, are high in _some_ kind of sugar.
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

use a sugar substitute like stevia I grow the plants and make my own it works well in jams, jellies and preserves .it also works well in home made syrups .

Watch starches also
Some starches raise your blood sugar almost as fast as plain sugar. Watch out for white rice, white bread, and wheat bread. Rye bread is much better for you. Read up on the glycemic index. It's very interesting that a baked russet potato raises your blood sugar faster than glucose. Always use lots of butter because the fat slows the absorption. I hope they taught you to test using the sides of the fingers as it's much less painful than sticking the center of the pad on the end of the finger.

"waste" one strip and test in two places: your finger and somewhere on your wrist/lower forearm. Log the difference. There are a lot more places to test on the forearms and the build up of scar tissue won't destroy your finger sensitivity. You can expect the number to be about 10 points lower on the arm, so if your goal is 110, you'll need a reading of 100 (or goal minus the logged difference) to actually meet it.

For the majority of healthy individuals, normal blood sugar levels are as follows: Between 4.0 to 5.4 mmol/L (72 to 99 mg/dL) when fasting. Up to 7.8 mmol/L (140 mg/dL) 2 hours after eating.
