Life is so fragile, and so brief.
In late November Tiffany (aka crazypagangurl) passed away suddenly. Then, about a week ago, I got a phone call from a friend saying her wife had barely survived a health scare, and she was shaken to the core. Then one of my cousins tripped and fell and broke her shoulder, and was told a few inches difference she might have broken her neck instead. Now, Drea's wife has been taken from her.
What I'm saying is, tell the people you love that you love them. You never know when it will be the last time you speak to somebody.

I just lost a cousin last Friday at 59 from a heart attack. Everyday is a blessing. Old is good just hurts more.

Losing the one you loved is never easy.
This June will be 9 years since my wife of 36 years passed her final exam {she insisted she wasn't dying, but graduating} She'd been bed ridden for 9 years and I was her caregiver while working full time. I never regretted the time. We always parted with shared 'I Love You's. Knowing her end was near she told me she'd be waiting for me in heaven… but that I should take my time. She faced the end of her earthly life with dignity and grace and no doubt as to her destination. She inspired me to live despite the loss. That's what love is all about. Hold on to the happy times, keep them close to your heart, for one day you'll be reunited.
Boys will be girls... if they're lucky!

The trick is to make "I love you" a regular part of your vocabulary without making it trite. My wife and I also never part without exchanging "I love you(s)". On top of that, I often, as I walk by, stop and give her a kiss and say "I love you."
We never go to sleep without cuddling and talking about our love, be it remembering our beginnings or special times we've shared, or just appreciating our 50 plus years together. I often tell her how I'm in awe of the fact that she's chosen to be with me all these years.
In short, we work at reaffirming our love and expressing it.
