Just had to say...Easter eggs
and little hidden jests, jokes and play on names from movies or TV are hidden in most of my stories...but no one has said a peep on any of them in 2 years...???

I know the feeling.
I know the feeling.
I have put a lot of in-jokes with names and used a bunch of easter eggs but few caught them. I'd understand wrestling names being a bit obscure(although a couple did catch some famous ones) but I included some Hollywood names and unintentionally did an ode to classic comedians(Jack and Benny being a comedic duo, three stooges named after the three stooges etc.)
I'm told STFU more times in a day than most people get told in a lifetime
I use them because calling
I use them because calling everyone or NPC's jack. bill or sally is hard and if the story is based on a movie or tv show a little bit--I add in the names form it to see if anyone catches it!

i probably miss them
or forget to comment on them
clearly
No one 'gets' the references or considers them worth comment.
There are plenty of RL references in my writings, I can't remember anyone commenting on any of them specifically, indeed I wouldn't expect them too. If they get them great, if they don't, well i've obviously made a reasonable job of characterisation.
'in' jokes surely are just that so why would you expect a reaction if the readership aren't 'in'? For example, references to obscure US TV programmes mean nothing to outside world readers so they won't get it. Likewise with specific sport/occupation insider stuff and going into long explanatory speaches in a story is really a big turn off.
The best 'Easter Eggs' as you put it, are ones grown within your own writings, readers will at least (hopefully) get the references.

Culturally illiterate or ...
I am mostly culturally illiterate; but, I sometime get the joke. That said, I would never comment on the joke so not to spoil it for the next reader.
Eggs, Easter or not
When I notice one I react the same way I do to certain authors use of the same character names in many of their tales (insert eye roll here)....

High hurdle
I fear most find the hurdle to comment rather than just move on, rather high.
I agree
I find it very hard for me to comment on any given work. I have many times started writing only to delete it after a read through.
