Hi all.

Well, it's my turn in the barrel. I've been diagnosed with thyroid cancer. So, on Wednesday 11/7, I will be having my thyroid and some lymph nodes removed. I should only be in the hospital for two or three days (I hope). Then I get to glow. I get to take a radioactive iodine pill.

Hopefully, I won't leave Tommy's readers hanging too long by their acrylic fingernails.

Our thoughts ...

are with you.

The very word, cancer, is scary.
We all know the formula: ...If caught early ...
And, I hope that everything has been caught early, and that you have a full recovery.

For cancer,

Radioactive iodine is the way to go. I had a case of hyperactive thyroid causing the right node to enlarge. My endocrinologist wanted to do a low dose radioactive iodine, in an effort to cripple the thyroid and curb its over activity. This would almost assuredly have resulted in a hypo-active thyroid. I refused that and switched endos and had a surgeon remove the enlarged node. So far so good.

A word of caution. I know a gentleman whose thyroid was destroyed by radiation on a nearby tumor. One day, he forgot to take his medication and about halfway through the day, he was in a bad way. To quote him, he thought he was dying. After he took his meds it took the rest of the day to recover.

I know a fellow who had his

I know a fellow who had his thyroid destroyed using radioactive iodine some time ago (for an overactive thyroid, not cancer). After some trial and error getting his neds adjusted he has done quite well. In fact this year, at the age of 67 IIRC, he walked across the USA!

{I leave a trail of Kudos as I browse the site. Be careful where you step!}

Take care of yourself

Could be an ideal time to pamper yourself and take it easy. Hoping you recover quickly.
