I can't wait for Wednesday!!!
Although that's when 2020 starts *SIGH*
Here's what I..
Tweeted earlier this morning:
Right of Franchise is something it's really easy to take for granted. Don't. Apathy is not a reason to stay at home. If you have to choose between the lesser of two evils, that's okay. Just vote. Be heard. Stand up for what you believe in.
~And so it goes...
Apathy
The biggest problem this country has is apathy. What really makes it bad is nobody cares.

democracy
Ever read what Plato and Socrates said about democracy? If not, please don't hesitate to use your search engine to look for it ;)
Yours, Leontine
We don't have a democracy
According to Dr. James McHenry, one of Maryland’s delegates to the Constitutional Convention of 1787, in his notes on the convention, published in The American Historical Review, vol. 11, 1906, and the anecdote on p. 618 reads: “A lady asked Dr. {Benjamin} Franklin Well Doctor what have we got a republic or a monarchy. A republic replied the Doctor if you can keep it.” The quote may be found here.
Wikipedia Definitions:
Republic: "A state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives..."[1]
Democracy: "A system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives."[2] (Footnotes reference the Oxford Dictionary https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/republic, https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/democracy, respectively)
According to Diffen.com:
The key difference between a democracy and a republic lies in the limits placed on government by the law, which has implications for minority rights. Both forms of government tend to use a representational system — i.e., citizens vote to elect politicians to represent their interests and form the government. In a republic, a constitution or charter of rights protects certain inalienable rights that cannot be taken away by the government, even if it has been elected by a majority of voters. In a "pure democracy," the majority is not restrained in this way and can impose its will on the minority.
Most modern nations—including the United States—are democratic republics with a constitution, which can be amended by a popularly elected government. This comparison therefore contrasts the form of government in most countries today with a theoretical construct of a "pure democracy", mainly to highlight the features of a republic.
No extra charge for the civics lesson. ;o)

The only true democracy in
The only true democracy in the United States are open town meetings and those are normally found in New England...but even those are going away slowly as towns grow in size and get large enough to need reorganization into representative bodies.
We as citizens do have a form of pure democracy: ballot initiatives. They are our voice in lawmaking and through us we can either make or change laws- be they for the good or the bad.

This is the WORST way to vote
This is the WORST way to vote there is, even worse than not voting at all.
'Straight Ticket' is a cop-out mentality. (In fact, I was told today by my father, who runs one of the polls, that next year, Texas will not have the option of a straight ticket voting on the ballot. You'll have to actually look at whom you are voting).
If you know that person A is doing something that you don't like, vote for B, C, D, or a write in. Don't tar _everyone_ with the same brush based on whether they're a Demipublican or a Republicrat.
I went through and voted based on a cheat sheet I had with me, done from prior research. Scores of circuit courts, county commissioners, bureaucratic heads, etc. It took me several minutes even with the cheat sheet. A woman three down from me? She had a hard time getting past the first screen. I pointed out 'NEXT' instead of 'ENTER', and she was off. Less than two minutes later, she'd left. That means she punched a straight party, then paged through everything and hit 'Cast Ballot'. She had no clue who or what she voted for. None at all. Not even if some of the races didn't have that straight party in it.
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.
Straight ticket
There are good reasons to vote a straight ticket. In my case one party has been in control of the wheels of state government for years (20-30). It is past time to flush all of them down the drain and start with a fresh crew not beholden to the other party. As for the mythical good guy belonging to the other party, there's the old saying "If you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem". Their presence in office as members of the other party means they at least tacitly support the actions of their party. Ergo, they need to be replaced.
"Life is not measured by the breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.”
George Carlin
It is
When the party in question is full of nazis and white supremacists. Is vehemently anti gay, anti lesbian, anti transgender, anti bisexual, is extremely racist, doesn't care about the fact if we don't get our shit together we are all going to die to climate change, ect. It's not my fault republicans are a bunch of theocratic oligarchs who only care about padding the wallets of their billionaire estates.
Republicans might have been different before, but not a single one voted to keep medicare. Not a single one voted for trans people or LGB people. Not a single one was for police reform. Not a single one condemned president trumps treatment of muslims or immigrants or asylum seekers.
So yeah, republicans can die in the bed they made. Hopefully someday they'll stop worshipping their money and actually read their bible. But till then, yeah fuck them.

I am so happy you just called
I am so happy you just called my parents nazis, white supremacists, anti-transgender, anti-bisexual, anti-lesbian, and anti-gay. It's refreshing that you'll tar everyone with the same brush _just like many people do to transgendered_. I mean, I keep seeing that all transgendered are child molesting men in dresses, right? Also that all religious figures are child molesting men in robes.
Realistically, it's a human condition to over generalize, especially with groups of people. It doesn't mean I have to like seeing hypocrisy, by taking a small group of people and inflating it to include everyone.
THAT'S why it's a bad idea to 'straight party' anything. John Culberson isn't the same kind of Republican as Ted Cruz, for a rather blatant example. Hillary Clinton is a different kind of Democrat than Bernie Sanders, for another blatant example. They have certain platforms that they are similar on, which is why they're part of whichever party they choose. THERE AREN'T ANY OTHER CHOICES. The Libertarian party is the largest long term third party, and they aren't even large enough to get matching funds from the government for elections - because the Democrats and Republicans changed the laws to stack the decks on who could get the funds. Mainly, Democrats and Republicans - the groups that don't need them.
So, read up on everyone running for an office, and vote for the person. Their political party is, by now, basically irrelevant. Both sides want control, they just go about it different ways.
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.
Funny how
My parents and entire family is republican. I'm talking about the republicans in office, not individuals who don't understand politics and decide to vote for the party of humanities extinction. If your parents voted republican, probably are homophobic and transphobic, my parents are despite somewhat supporting me. I'm sorry that's a hard reality for you to grasp. I learned it the hard way by being tossed onto the street and being homeless for two and a half years. Republican senators always vote the same, no exceptions.
Also only republicans seem to turn out filth like this:
https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/414450-fbi-investig...
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/21/us/politics/transgender-t...
I pay attention how both sides vote. Republicans overwhelmingly want transgender people dead. By Republicans, I mean the GoP.
And libertarian party? You mean failed republicans? I've seen the shit they vote on and yeah as a brown LGBT person, fuck that.
Also fyi the repub you mentioned:
http://www.ontheissues.org/TX/John_Culberson.htm
Oh his voting record is on point. Let's see, anti woman, homophobic, "pro life," transphobic, and supports the GoP.
Fact remains, voting republican at this time in history is anti thesis to anyone LGBT. Plenty of quislings disagree.
It's difficult to believe szomeone cares about your well being, after republicans have OVERWHELMINGLY removed protection after protection and rights after rights.
FYI I never said your parents are nazis. I said the republican GoP is filled with them. Nor did I say they were white supremacists. But you cant say you support someone and continue to vote for people who have made it clear IE: Focus on the family that your cultural genocide is their endgame.
Or like how trump just cozies up to dictators. Yeah Kim Jon Ung is a great dude just like Trump said, sure he's murdered and slaughtered his own people but yeah great. Oh and vladimir putin, murdered how many reporters now? Oh and Bolsonaro in Brazil "great guy" only he has stated there will be ZERO indigenous land after he's through. Yay more genocide <3
Wake the fuck up, before it's too late. I pray my parents do the same.
Is the democrats perfect? Fuck no, in fact I plan to protest some of the very people I voted in aka Maria Cantwell, but there a HELL of a lot better than the alternative. Republicans have made their stance. The alt right (aka nazis)they have welcomed into their fold.
I know who I am, I am me, and I like me ^^

And FYI
I was a daddy's girl growing up. When I found out my mother and daddy voted Trump. I nearly broke down and cried. Ii knew it was coming because they are in a cult (no not normal christianity, a literal cult, I was raised in it, they forced really gross shit into our head, still unlearning it) My daddy is an Cuban immigrant, he's been naturalized, but he's also been to jail and trump played with denaturalization. It wasn't his fault he went to jail but living as a brown person is a different world compared to someone who is white. I don't know your race, so I'm not presuming that, I'm just saying, my daddy is playing with fire.
I'm the daughter of an immigrant, disabled, Transgender, and Latina. All things Trump has on his chopping block. Thanks to the democrats taking back the house things might actually be less dangerous for me now. Trump wont be able to remove my healthcare anymore (I have pre existing conditions) or take away my transition treatments like he and the rest of the GoP wanted.
Believe it or not, I am informed on the people I vote for. I just recognize that one party aka the hyper conservatives that the republican party has turned into, are literally my instrument of death. I wish there was just one that was on the senate that wasn't the same as the rest of the GoP, that didn't seek to turn the country into a living bible. But sadly that's not the reality we live in. The GoP only endorses republicans that fit their White Heterosexual Conservative Christian agenda. And that's the way it is now.
I know who I am, I am me, and I like me ^^

I'm the son of an immigrant,
I'm the son of an immigrant, a libertarian (in the 'get rid of most of the government' sense), and considered 'white' by idiots that don't seem to understand that Irish aren't the same as Italians, and neither are anything like Russians.
You know what that gets me from hard line Democrats? _The blame_. Did you know that even with not making much money, I've never qualified for Obamacare? I don't make enough - and I'm "white". I can't afford health insurance for myself, wife, or child, and they refuse to give me subsidies because ...? I'll let you finish that statement. I'm pro-choice, and in fact, I think that men shouldn't be allowed to even TALK about anything touching on women's reproductive rights, let alone vote on them. I think that immigration is a great thing - but not invasions of illegals, which is what we've been seeing for far too long. Asylum? That's a tough word to define. I'd define it as a small group of individuals seeking refuge from persecution. It doesn't cover half a country.
I think that the "Republican" agenda, as you'd put it, is destructive to individuals. The "Democratic" agenda is destructive to the country itself. Bread and circuses comes to mind.
As for my parents? You'd be surprised. I was raised that people are people, and it doesn't matter what they want to do to themselves, or with others, as long as everything is consensual. That's it. Gay, TG/TS, cross-dressing, any of it. I've had TG and gay folks over to my house while I was in college, and they were treated _exactly_ the same as everyone else. (Frankly, they were treated better than some of my GF's were) So, you went off and continued to tar everyone with that same brush again. I'm sorry your parents are homophobic - but mine aren't, even though you stated straight out that they are - after not even having met them, but just knowing they're registered Republicans.
What did I vote for? A mish-mash of Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, and a couple of independents. If I didn't know anything about the race? I skipped it. Throwing a vote into that is just as likely to harm as help.
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.
I voted
I voted make sure everyone you know does too.

I voted.
I voted.
There are only two things this election that mattered to me but I voted: Governor of Massachusetts and Massachusetts Ballot Question 3(a bathroom protection bill repeal). I don't vote a straight ticket, I vote my conscience and with what I know about the candidates and their views and/or their actions while in office. I refuse to vote without knowing anything about someone, even if my vote is wasted. As long as I have an impact on the two I really wanted to vote for, it's worth it.
I'm told STFU more times in a day than most people get told in a lifetime
Ah - the honest way to vote.
Ah - the honest way to vote. See my post above about 'straight ticket' voting. Thank you for voting, and for voting for what you knew.

No straight ticket for me
I voted a Gay ticket. It was rainbow colored and came with a free bag of glitter!

Voting the person
My normal method of voting is finding out which candidate thinks the way I do and vote for that person, regardless of their party. I've always tried to stay informed about the world around me. I form my opinion on many things that way, not just voting.
That doesn't always work. Imagine, if you will, that the other candidate in your opponent's party is actually the enemy in a war. Like the U.S. Civil War, north vs south. The best man is on the wrong side from you. But voting for him is giving support to the enemy. What do you do? Do you deviate from your previous system?
See my comment about straight party voting.

In the words of Chicago voters
"Vote early and Vote often!"
In other Chicago news there was a record 87% turn out of voters from the residents of Rosehill Cemetery :)
We the willing, led by the unsure. Have been doing so much with so little for so long,
We are now qualified to do anything with nothing.
Postscript
Let me add this postscript: Voting is very personal. How you vote is your business only. Nobody else has any business telling you how to vote, anymore than they have any business telling you who to vote for. I have explained how I vote, but not how anybody else should vote.
That anybody, ANYBODY, comes on here and tells anybody their method of voting is honest or dishonest, smart or stupid, annoys me no end. It isn't any of their business, and they should be looking after their business, not somebody else's.
That is all I will say on the subject. We are close to a pissing match and I really don't want to be responsible for any further escalation.
