I can now break the silence - your favourite author has been incommunicado as she's been fixing things at the Tour de France.

Seems all her hard shouting at the screen has paid off, tomorrow we'll be celebrating (barring complete disaster) the 6th British win in seven years at le Grand Boucle with a third rider taking the honours this year - let's hear it for Geraint Thomas, your time lad, is now!

Geraint Thomas!

A Welsh man will win the Tour of France. How about that?

Raise your glasses to the new champ.

Angharad, enjoy the triumph of the man from Wales!

Sportsman

While I have no doubt that cyclist are physical specimens, I can't get excited by the sport.

For a number of years, I lived a few hundred yards from Greg Lemond. At that same time, Kevin Garnett also lived about a half mile away. I was much more excited by a Kevin sighting than noticing Greg at our local school where his kids attended or in a local restaurant. I did eat more than few of his bagels but that was due to the location of my office and his franchise, than any hero worshipping. Greg was a nice guy who donated his time to a non-profit I started for our local school district.

Maybe my attitude toward the sport is colored by the movie Breaking Away, which I think is one of the all-time best sports movies. The professional riders in that movie seemed like thugs. Oops . . . "thugs" is a perfect description of most pro athletes -- so what's causing my lack of interest in cycling?

One of my sons was a superior bike rider. He did quite well in road races and was unbeatable in BMX. I cheered for him, but never got into the rest of it. Another son just called me during a ride today. He loves the sport.

Nice to see 'G' a winner at last

and to get around without taking a tumble or three. And so see Froome help him out as well.

And to see Philippe Gilbert take a real tumble over a stone wall, get back on and finish the stage (60km) with a broken kneecap was amazing. (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cycling/44954769)

I wish those namby pamy footballers who roll around in agony when hit with a feather would grow a pair (not saying what...) and grow up.

Well done G and also to Ang for putting the spirits onto anyone who dared challenge him.

missing Gaby

reading all 22 Gaby books gave me alot of insight to the tour that I was able to use to make the race enjoyable to watch. I usually hate watching sports on tv but this year it came to life watching the few stages I could catch on tv. Although I was looking for Gaby to pop up on tv somewhere Cheering for her favorite.
