Today's election in Virginia is truly historical. The ripple effects of her election will be significant, long lasting and positive. Election is acceptance. "Virginia’s Danica Roem to be first openly transgender person elected, seated in a U.S. statehouse" - The election "... pitted a 33-year-old former journalist who began her physical gender transition four years ago against a 13-term incumbent who called himself Virginia’s “chief homophobe” and earlier this year introduced a “bathroom bill” that died in committee."

"The race took an ugly turn when Marshall and his supporters produced ads disparaging Roem’s transgender identity. But in the end, that tactic failed."

It will be interesting to see if this accomplishment will find its way into some of our BC story lines.

Pippa K reported this here first on BC and in my excitement I reported it too. I added this comment to Pippa's post: Election is acceptance. A newspaper report quotes Danica: Standing on a table inside the pub, Roem dedicated her win “to every person who’s ever been singled out, who’s ever been stigmatized, who’s ever been the misfit, who’s ever been the kid in the corner, who’s ever needed someone to stand up for them when they didn’t have a voice of their own. This one is for you.”

It gets better!

YAY The good news for acceptance continues!

"Andrea Jenkins became the first openly transgender woman of color to be elected to public office in the country after she won the Ward 8 seat of the Minneapolis City Council on Tuesday night."

Great news!

I thought I'd posted a comment but it doesn't seem to be here. I just wanted you to know that the story is making news world-wide. I picked it up on our SBS (Special Broadcast Service) news feed this morning in Australia. Sorry if this turns out to be a duplicate post.

You go girl.

I tried twice but getting elected in Wyoming is really difficult. I am glad Danica finally broke that glass ceiling. The Trump bump didn't hurt. Most are totally disgusted with him.
